Balak Summons Balaam
1. And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.
1. Les enfants d`Israël partirent, et ils campèrent dans les plaines de Moab, au delà du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.

2. And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

3. And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.

4. And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
4. Moab dit aux anciens de Madian: Cette multitude va dévorer tout ce qui nous entoure, comme le boeuf broute la verdure des champs. Balak, fils de Tsippor, était alors roi de Moab.

5. He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:

6. Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
6. "Viens, je te prie, maudis-moi ce peuple, car il est plus puissant que moi; peut-être ainsi pourrai-je le battre et le chasserai-je du pays, car je sais que celui que tu bénis est béni, et que celui que tu maudis est maudit."
6. "Masìna ianao, ankehitriny mankanesa aty, ozòny ho ahy ity firenena ity; fa mahery loatra noho izaho izy; angamba handresy aho, ka hamely azy isika, ary handroaka azy hiala amin' ny tany aho; satria fantatro fa izay tsofinao rano dia voatahy, ary izay ozoninao dia voaozona."
7. And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
7. Les anciens de Moab et les anciens de Madian partirent, ayant avec eux des présents pour le devin. Ils arrivèrent auprès de Balaam, et lui rapportèrent les paroles de Balak.
7. "Dia nandeha ny loholon' i Moaba sy ny loholon' i Midiana nitondra ny saran' ny fankatòvana teny an-tanany; dia nankany amin' i Balama izy ka nilaza taminy ny tenin' i Balaka."
8. And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
8. Balaam leur dit: Passez ici la nuit, et je vous donnerai réponse, d`après ce que l`Éternel me dira. Et les chefs de Moab restèrent chez Balaam.
8. Ary hoy Balama taminy: Mitoera aty anio alina, dia hitondra teny ho anareo indray aho, araka izay holazain' i Jehovah amiko. Dia nitoetra tao amin' i Balama ireo andriandahin' i Moaba.
9. And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?
9. Dieu vint à Balaam, et dit: Qui sont ces hommes que tu as chez toi?
9. Ary Andriamanitra nankao amin' i Balama ka nanao hoe: Iza moa ireo lehilahy ato aminao ireo?
10. And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,
10. Balaam répondit à Dieu: Balak, fils de Tsippor, roi de Moab, les a envoyés pour me dire:
10. Dia hoy Balama tamin' Andriamanitra: Balaka, zanakalahin' i Zipora, mpanjakan' i Moaba, no efa naniraka tamiko hoe:
11. Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.
11. "Voici, un peuple est sorti d`Égypte, et il couvre la surface de la terre; viens donc, maudis-le; peut-être ainsi pourrai-je le combattre, et le chasserai-je."
11. "Indro, misy firenena izay mivoaka avy any Egypta mandrakotra ny tany; koa mankanesa aty ankehitriny, ka ozòny ho ahy izy; angamba haharesy azy aho, ka haharoaka azy."
12. And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.
12. "Dieu dit à Balaam: Tu n`iras point avec eux; tu ne maudiras point ce peuple, car il est béni."

13. And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
13. Balaam se leva le matin, et il dit aux chefs de Balak: Allez dans votre pays, car l`Éternel refuse de me laisser aller avec vous.
13. "Dia nifoha maraina koa Balama ka nanao tamin' ireo andriandahin' i Balaka hoe: Andeha mody any amin' ny taninareo; fa tsy avelan' i Jehovah handeha hiaraka aminareo aho."
14. And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.
14. Et les princes de Moab se levèrent, retournèrent auprès de Balak, et dirent: Balaam a refusé de venir avec nous.
14. Ary niainga ireo andriandahin' i Moaba, dia tonga tany amin' i Balaka ka nanao hoe: Tsy nety nandeha niaraka taminay Balama.
15. And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.

16. And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
16. "Ils arrivèrent auprès de Balaam, et lui dirent: Ainsi parle Balak, fils de Tsippor: Que l`on ne t`empêche donc pas de venir vers moi;"
16. "Dia tonga tao amin' i Balama ireny ka nanao taminy hoe: Izao no lazain' i Balaka, zanakalahin' i Zipora: Masìna ianao, aoka tsy hisy zavatra hanakana anao tsy hankaty amiko;"
17. For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.
17. "car je te rendrai beaucoup d`honneurs, et je ferai tout ce que tu me diras; viens, je te prie, maudis-moi ce peuple."
17. "Fa hanandratra anao ho amin' ny voninahitra lehibe indrindra aho, ary izay rehetra holazainao amiko dia hataoko; koa masìna ianao, mankanesa aty, ozòny ho ahy ity firenena ity."
18. And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
18. Balaam répondit et dit aux serviteurs de Balak: Quand Balak me donnerait sa maison pleine d`argent et d`or, je ne pourrais faire aucune chose, ni petite ni grande, contre l`ordre de l`Éternel, mon Dieu.
18. Fa namaly Balama ka nanao tamin' ny mpanompon' i Balaka hoe: Na dia homen' i Balaka ahy aza ny tranony feno volafotsy sy volamena, dia tsy mahazo mihoatra ny tenin' i Jehovah Andriamanitro aho, na handatsaka, na hampihoatra.
19. Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
19. Maintenant, je vous prie, restez ici cette nuit, et je saurai ce que l`Éternel me dira encore.
19. Koa ankehitriny, masìna ianareo, mitoera aty ihany koa ianareo anio alina, mba ho fantatro izay mbola holazain' i Jehovah amiko.
20. And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
20. "Dieu vint à Balaam pendant la nuit, et lui dit: Puisque ces hommes sont venus pour t`appeler, lève-toi, va avec eux; mais tu feras ce que je te dirai."
20. "Ary nony alina dia nankao amin' i Balama Andriamanitra ka nanao taminy hoe: Raha haka anao no nahatongavan' ireo lehilahy ireo, dia miaingà ka mandehana miaraka aminy; kanefa ny teny izay holazaiko aminao no hataonao."
Balaam's Donkey
21. And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
21. Balaam se leva le matin, sella son ânesse, et partit avec les chefs de Moab.

22. And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
22. "La colère de Dieu s`enflamma, parce qu`il était parti; et l`ange de l`Éternel se plaça sur le chemin, pour lui résister. Balaam était monté sur son ânesse, et ses deux serviteurs étaient avec lui."
22. "Ary nirehitra taminy ny fahatezeran' Andriamanitra satria nandeha izy; ary nijanona teo an-dalana Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah ho fahavalo hanohitra azy; ary Balama nitaingina ny borikiny ary ny zatovony roa lahy nanaraka azy."
23. And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
23. "L`ânesse vit l`ange de l`Éternel qui se tenait sur le chemin, son épée nue dans la main; elle se détourna du chemin et alla dans les champs. Balaam frappa l`ânesse pour la ramener dans le chemin."
23. "Dia hitan' ny boriky nijanona teo an-dalana Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah sady nitana ny sabany voatsoaka teny an-tanany; dia nivily lalana ny boriky ka nankany amin' ny saha; dia nikapoka ny boriky Balama mba hampiverina azy ho amin' ny lalana."
24. But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
24. "L`ange de l`Éternel se plaça dans un sentier entre les vignes; il y avait un mur de chaque côté."
24. Fa Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah nijanona teo an-kandemponana tanelanelan' ny tanimboaloboka izay nisy fefy teo andaniny roa.
25. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
25. "L`ânesse vit l`ange de l`Éternel; elle se serra contre le mur, et pressa le pied de Balaam contre le mur. Balaam la frappa de nouveau."
25. "Ary rehefa nahita Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah ny boriky dia niampify teo amin' ny fefy ka nanery ny tongotr' i Balama tamin' ny fefy; dia nikapoka azy indray izy;"
26. And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
26. L`ange de l`Éternel passa plus loin, et se plaça dans un lieu où il n`y avait point d`espace pour se détourner à droite ou à gauche.
26. Ary mbola nandroso Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah ka nijanona teo amin' ny toerana ety, izay tsy nisy lalana hiviliana, na ho amin' ny ankavanana, na ho amin' ny ankavia.
27. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
27. L`ânesse vit l`ange de l`Éternel, et elle s`abattit sous Balaam. La colère de Balaam s`enflamma, et il frappa l`ânesse avec un bâton.
27. "Ary rehefa nahita Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah ny boriky, dia nandry teo ambanin' i Balama; ary nirehitra ny fahatezeran' i Balama ka nikapoka ny boriky tamin' ny tehina izy."
28. And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
28. L`Éternel ouvrit la bouche de l`ânesse, et elle dit à Balaam: Que t`ai je fait, pour que tu m`aies frappée déjà trois fois?
28. Dia nosokafan' i Jehovah ny vavan' ny boriky, ka hoy ny boriky tamin' i Balama: Inona no nataoko taminao no dia nokapohinao intelo aho izao?
29. And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
29. "Balaam répondit à l`ânesse: C`est parce que tu t`es moquée de moi; si j`avais une épée dans la main, je te tuerais à l`instant."
29. "Dia hoy Balama tamin' ny boriky: Satria namazivazy ahy ianao; enga anie ka hisy sabatra ety an-tanako dia matiko ianao ankehitriny."
30. And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
30. L`ânesse dit à Balaam: Ne suis-je pas ton ânesse, que tu as de tout temps montée jusqu`à ce jour? Ai-je l`habitude de te faire ainsi? Et il répondit: Non.
30. Dia hoy ny boriky tamin' i Balama: Tsy borikinao va aho, izay nitaingenanao hatrizay nanananao ahy ka mandraka androany? Moa efa fanaoko va ny manao toy izao aminao? Dia hoy izy: Tsia.
31. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
31. "L`Éternel ouvrit les yeux de Balaam, et Balaam vit l`ange de l`Éternel qui se tenait sur le chemin, son épée nue dans la main; et il s`inclina, et se prosterna sur son visage."
31. "Dia nampahiratin' i Jehovah ny mason' i Balama hahita Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah mijanona eo an-dalana sady mitana ny sabany voatsoaka eny an-tanany; dia niondrika izy ka niankohoka."
32. And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:
32. L`ange de l`Éternel lui dit: Pourquoi as-tu frappé ton ânesse déjà trois fois? Voici, je suis sorti pour te résister, car c`est un chemin de perdition qui est devant moi.
32. Ary hoy Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah taminy: Nahoana no nikapoka ny borikinao intelo ianao izao? Indro, Izaho no nivoaka hanohitra anao, satria mivily ho amin' ny ratsy eto anatrehako ny lalanao.
33. And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
33. "L`ânesse m`a vu, et elle s`est détournée devant moi déjà trois fois; si elle ne fût pas détournée de moi, je t`aurais même tué, et je lui aurais laissé la vie."
33. "Koa nahita ahy ny boriky ka nivily Ahy intelo izao; raha tsy nivily Ahy izy, dia ianao no nataoko maty mihitsy toy izay, fa izy kosa no novelomiko."
34. And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.
34. "Balaam dit à l`ange de l`Éternel: J`ai péché, car je ne savais pas que tu te fusses placé au-devant de moi sur le chemin; et maintenant, si tu me désapprouves, je m`en retournerai."
34. "Dia hoy Balama tamin' Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah: Efa nanota aho; fa tsy fantatro fa Ianao no nijanona nisakana ahy teo an-dalana; koa ankehitriny, raha tsy sitrakao izany, dia hiverina aho."
35. And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
35. "L`ange de l`Éternel dit à Balaam: Va avec ces hommes; mais tu ne feras que répéter les paroles que je te dirai. Et Balaam alla avec les chefs de Balak."
35. Fa hoy Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah tamin' i Balama: Mandehana ihany miaraka amin' ireo lehilahy ireo, kanefa ny teny izay holazaiko aminao ihany no holazainao. Dia nandeha Balama niaraka tamin' ireo andriandahin' i Balaka.
36. And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
36. Balak apprit que Balaam arrivait, et il sortit à sa rencontre jusqu`à la ville de Moab qui est sur la limite de l`Arnon, à l`extrême frontière.
36. Ary nony ren' i Balaka fa tonga Balama, dia nivoaka izy mba hitsena azy teo amin' ny tanànan' i Moaba, teo amin' ny faritanin' i Arnona izay eo amin' ny sisin' ny faritany.
37. And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
37. Balak dit à Balaam: N`ai-je pas envoyé auprès de toi pour t`appeler? Pourquoi n`es-tu pas venu vers moi? Ne puis-je donc pas te traiter avec honneur?
37. Ary hoy Balaka tamin' i Balama: Tsy naniraka dia naniraka tany aminao va aho nampaka anao? ka nahoana no tsy nankaty amiko ianao, tsy haiko tokoa va ny hanandratra anao ho amin' ny voninahitra?
38. And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
38. "Balaam dit à Balak: Voici, je suis venu vers toi; maintenant, me sera-t-il permis de dire quoi que ce soit? Je dirai les paroles que Dieu mettra dans ma bouche."

39. And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.
39. Balaam alla avec Balak, et ils arrivèrent à Kirjath Hutsoth.
39. Dia nandeha Balama niaraka tamin' i Balaka, ka nankany Kiriata-hozota izy roa lahy.
40. And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
40. Balak sacrifia des boeufs et des brebis, et il en envoya à Balaam et aux chefs qui étaient avec lui.
40. Ary Balaka nanolotra fanatitra omby sy ondry ka nampanatitra ho an' i Balama sy ny andriandahiny izay teo aminy.
41. And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
41. Le matin, Balak prit Balaam, et le fit monter à Bamoth Baal, d`où Balaam vit une partie du peuple.
