Water From the Rock
1. Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2. And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
2. "Il n`y avait point d`eau pour l`assemblée; et l`on se souleva contre Moïse et Aaron."

3. And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

4. And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
4. Pourquoi avez-vous fait venir l`assemblée de l`Éternel dans ce désert, pour que nous y mourions, nous et notre bétail?
4. Fa nahoana no nitondra ny fiangonan' i Jehovah ho amin' ity efitra ity ianareo, mba hahafaty anay sy ny biby fiompinay eto?
5. And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
5. Pourquoi nous avez-vous fait monter hors d`Égypte, pour nous amener dans ce méchant lieu? Ce n`est pas un lieu où l`on puisse semer, et il n`y a ni figuier, ni vigne, ni grenadier, ni d`eau à boire.

6. And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
6. "Moïse et Aaron s`éloignèrent de l`assemblée pour aller à l`entrée de la tente d`assignation. Ils tombèrent sur leur visage; et la gloire de l`Éternel leur apparut."

7. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

8. Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
8. "Prends la verge, et convoque l`assemblée, toi et ton frère Aaron. Vous parlerez en leur présence au rocher, et il donnera ses eaux; tu feras sortir pour eux de l`eau du rocher, et tu abreuveras l`assemblée et leur bétail."
8. "Alao ny tehina ka vorionao sy Arona rahalahinao ny fiangonana, ary mitenena amin' ny vatolampy eo imasony ianareo, dia hampiboiboika ny ranony izy; ary hampivoaka rano ho an' ny olona avy amin' ny vatolampy ianao, ka dia hampisotroinao ny fiangonana sy ny bibiny."
9. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
9. Moïse prit la verge qui était devant l`Éternel, comme l`Éternel le lui avait ordonné.
9. Dia nalain' i Mosesy ny tehina avy teo anatrehan' i Jehovah, araka izay nandidiany azy.
10. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
10. Moïse et Aaron convoquèrent l`assemblée en face du rocher. Et Moïse leur dit: Écoutez donc, rebelles! Est-ce de ce rocher que nous vous ferons sortir de l`eau?
10. "Dia novorian' i Mosesy sy Arona teo anoloan' ny vatolampy ny fiangonana; ka dia hoy izy: Mihainoa, ry mpiodina: Moa amin' ity vatolampy ity va no hampivoahanay rano ho anareo?"
11. And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
11. Puis Moïse leva la main et frappa deux fois le rocher avec sa verge. Il sortit de l`eau en abondance. L`assemblée but, et le bétail aussi.
11. "Ary Mosesy dia nanainga ny tanany ka nikapoka ny vatolampy indroa tamin' ny tehiny; dia niboiboika be dia be ny rano, ka nisotro ny fiangonana ary koa ny biby fiompiny."
12. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
12. Alors l`Éternel dit à Moïse et à Aaron: Parce que vous n`avez pas cru en moi, pour me sanctifier aux yeux des enfants d`Israël, vous ne ferez point entrer cette assemblée dans le pays que je lui donne.
12. Ary Jehovah niteny tamin' i Mosesy sy Arona hoe: Satria tsy nino Ahy ianareo hanamasina Ahy teo imason' ny Zanak' Isiraely, dia tsy hitondra izao fiangonana izao ho any amin' ny tany izay nomeko azy ianareo.
13. This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.
13. Ce sont les eaux de Meriba, où les enfants d`Israël contestèrent avec l`Éternel, qui fut sanctifié en eux.
13. Ity no ranon' i Meriba, satria ny Zanak' Isiraely niady tamin' i Jehovah ka nohamasinina teo aminy Izy.
Edom Denies Israel Passages
14. And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
14. De Kadès, Moïse envoya des messagers au roi d`Édom, pour lui dire: Ainsi parle ton frère Israël: Tu sais toutes les souffrances que nous avons éprouvées.
14. "Ary Mosesy dia nandefa iraka avy tao Kadesy hankany amin' ny mpanjakan' i Edoma hanao hoe: Izao no lazain' Isiraely rahalahinao: Ianao mahalala ny fahoriana rehetra nanjo anay;"
15. How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
15. Nos pères descendirent en Égypte, et nous y demeurâmes longtemps. Mais les Égyptiens nous ont maltraités, nous et nos pères.
15. "Dia ny nidinan' ny razanay tany Egypta sy ny nitoeranay ela tany; ary nampahory anay sy ny razanay ny Egyptiana;"
16. And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:
16. Nous avons crié à l`Éternel, et il a entendu notre voix. Il a envoyé un ange, et nous a fait sortir de l`Égypte. Et voici, nous sommes à Kadès, ville à l`extrémité de ton territoire.

17. Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
17. "Laisse-nous passer par ton pays; nous ne traverserons ni les champs, ni les vignes, et nous ne boirons pas l`eau des puits; nous suivrons la route royale, sans nous détourner à droite ou à gauche, jusqu`à ce que nous ayons franchi ton territoire."
17. "Masìna ianao, avelao handeha hamaky ny taninao izahay; tsy handeha hamaky ny saha na ny tanimboalobokao, na hisotro ny rano amin' ny fantsakana izahay; ny lalamben' ny mpanjaka no halehanay, tsy hania izahay, na ho amin' ny ankavanana, na ho amin' ny ankavia mandra-pahafakay ny faritry ny taninao."
18. And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.
18. Édom lui dit: Tu ne passeras point chez moi, sinon je sortirai à ta rencontre avec l`épée.

19. And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.
19. "Les enfants d`Israël lui dirent: Nous monterons par la grande route; et, si nous buvons de ton eau, moi et mes troupeaux, j`en paierai le prix; je ne ferai que passer avec mes pieds, pas autre chose."

20. And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

21. Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.

The Death of Aaron
22. And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
22. Toute l`assemblée des enfants d`Israël partit de Kadès, et arriva à la montagne de Hor.
22. Ary nifindra ny Zanak' Isiraely, dia ny fiangonana rehetra, ka niala tany Kadesy ary tonga tao an-tendrombohitra Hora.
23. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,
23. L`Éternel dit à Moïse et à Aaron, vers la montagne de Hor, sur la frontière du pays d`Édom:
23. Ary Jehovah niteny tamin' i Mosesy sy Arona tao an-tendrombohitra hora, tao amin' ny sisin' ny tany Edoma ka nanao hoe:
24. Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
24. "Aaron va être recueilli auprès de son peuple; car il n`entrera point dans le pays que je donne aux enfants d`Israël, parce que vous avez été rebelles à mon ordre, aux eaux de Meriba."
24. Hangonina any amin' ny razany Arona fa tsy hiditra any amin' ny tany, izay nomeko ny Zanak' Isiraely izy, satria nanohitra ny teniko teo amin' ny ranon' i Meriba ianareo.
25. Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
25. Prends Aaron et son fils Éléazar, et fais-les monter sur la montagne de Hor.
25. "Alao Arona sy Eleazara zanany lahy, ka ento miakatra ao an-tendrombohitra Hora izy ireo;"
26. And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
26. Dépouille Aaron de ses vêtements, et fais-les revêtir à Éléazar, son fils. C`est là qu`Aaron sera recueilli et qu`il mourra.

27. And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
27. Moïse fit ce que l`Éternel avait ordonné. Ils montèrent sur la montagne de Hor, aux yeux de toute l`assemblée.
27. "Ary Mosesy dia nanao araka izay nandidian' i Jehovah; dia niakatra tao an-tendrombohitra Hora izy ireo, teo imason' ny fiangonana rehetra."
28. And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.
28. Moïse dépouilla Aaron de ses vêtements, et les fit revêtir à Éléazar, son fils. Aaron mourut là, au sommet de la montagne. Moïse et Éléazar descendirent de la montagne.
28. "Dia nesorin' i Mosesy ny fitafian' i Arona ka natafiny an' i Eleazara zanany lahy; ary maty tao an-tampon' ny tendrombohitra Arona; dia nidina avy tao an-tendrombohitra Mosesy sy Eleazara."
29. And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
29. Toute l`assemblée vit qu`Aaron avait expiré, et toute la maison d`Israël pleura Aaron pendant trente jours.
