The People Rebel
1. And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

2. And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
2. Tous les enfants d`Israël murmurèrent contre Moïse et Aaron, et toute l`assemblée leur dit: Que ne sommes-nous morts dans le pays d`Égypte, ou que ne sommes-nous morts dans ce désert!
2. "Dia nimonomonona tamin' i Mosesy sy Arona ny Zanak' Isiraely rehetra, ka hoy ny fiangonana rehetra taminy: Inay anie isika mba maty tany amin' ny tany Egypta ihany; na inay anie isika mba maty taty amin' ity efitra ity!"
3. And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
3. Pourquoi l`Éternel nous fait-il aller dans ce pays, où nous tomberons par l`épée, où nos femmes et nos petits enfants deviendront une proie? Ne vaut-il pas mieux pour nous retourner en Égypte?
3. "Ary nahoana Jehovah no nitondra antsika ho amin' ity tany ity ho lavon-tsabatra, ary ny vadintsika sy ny zanatsika madinika ho babo; tsy aleontsika va miverina ho any Egypta?"
4. And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
4. Et ils se dirent l`un à l`autre: Nommons un chef, et retournons en Égypte.

5. Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
5. Moïse et Aaron tombèrent sur leur visage, en présence de toute l`assemblée réunie des enfants d`Israël.

6. And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
6. Et, parmi ceux qui avaient exploré le pays, Josué, fils de Nun, et Caleb, fils de Jephunné, déchirèrent leurs vêtements,

7. And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
7. et parlèrent ainsi à toute l`assemblée des enfants d`Israël: Le pays que nous avons parcouru, pour l`explorer, est un pays très bon, excellent.
7. Ary niteny tamin' ny fiangonan' ny Zanak' Isiraely rehetra izy ireo hoe: Ny tany izay nalehanay nosafoina dia tany tsara indrindra.
8. If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
8. Si l`Éternel nous est favorable, il nous mènera dans ce pays, et nous le donnera: c`est un pays où coulent le lait et le miel.
8. Raha sitrak' i Jehovah isika, dia hitondra antsika ho amin' izany tany izany Izy, ka homeny antsika izany, dia tany tondra-dronono sy tantely.
9. Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
9. Seulement, ne soyez point rebelles contre l`Éternel, et ne craignez point les gens de ce pays, car ils nous serviront de pâture, ils n`ont plus d`ombrage pour les couvrir, l`Éternel est avec nous, ne les craignez point!
9. "Fa aza miodina amin' i Jehovah fotsiny ianareo, ary aza matahotra ny mponina ao amin' ny tany; fa mofo ho antsika ireo, ny fiarovany efa niala taminy, ary Jehovah momba antsika, ka aza matahotra azy."
10. But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
10. Toute l`assemblée parlait de les lapider, lorsque la gloire de l`Éternel apparut sur la tente d`assignation, devant tous les enfants d`Israël.
10. Fa nandidy ny fiangonana rehetra hoe: Torahy vato izy roa lahy. Kanjo ny voninahitr' i Jehovah niseho teo amin' ny tranolay fihaonana teo anatrehan' ny Zanak' Isiraely.
11. And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
11. Et l`Éternel dit à Moïse: Jusqu`à quand ce peuple me méprisera-t-il? Jusqu`à quand ne croira-t-il pas en moi, malgré tous les prodiges que j`ai faits au milieu de lui?
11. Dia hoy Jehovah tamin' i Mosesy: mandra-pahoviana no hampahatezitra Ahy ity firenena ity? ary mandra-pahoviana no tsy hinoany Ahy noho ny famantarana rehetra izay nasehoko teo aminy?
12. I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
12. "Je le frapperai par la peste, et je le détruirai; mais je ferai de toi une nation plus grande et plus puissante que lui."
12. Hamely azy amin' ny areti-mandringana Aho ka hamongotra azy, fa hanao anao ho firenena lehibe sy mahery noho izy kosa.
13. And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)
13. Moïse dit à l`Éternel: Les Égyptiens l`apprendront, eux du milieu desquels tu as fait monter ce peuple par ta puissance,
13. "Ary hoy Mosesy tamin' i Jehovah: Dia ho ren' ny Egyptiana izany, (fa ny herinao no nitondranao ity firenena ity nivoaka avy teo aminy);"
14. And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
14. "et ils le diront aux habitants de ce pays. Ils savaient que toi, l`Éternel, tu es au milieu de ce peuple; que tu apparais visiblement, toi, l`Éternel; que ta nuée se tient sur lui; que tu marches devant lui le jour dans une colonne de nuée, et la nuit dans une colonne de feu."
14. "Ary holazainy amin' ny mponina eo amin' ity tany ity izany; fa efa reny fa Ianao Jehovah no eto amin' ity firenena ity, ary Ianao Jehovah dia hita mifanatrika, ary ny rahonao no mijanona eo amboniny, ary Ianao no mandeha eo alohany amin' ny andri-rahona nony andro, ary amin' ny andri-afo nony alina."
15. Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
15. Si tu fais mourir ce peuple comme un seul homme, les nations qui ont entendu parler de toi diront:
15. Fa raha mahafaty ity firenena rehetra ity toy ny olona iray Ianao, dia hiteny ny firenena izay efa nandre ny lazanao, ka hanao hoe:
16. Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
16. L`Éternel n`avait pas le pouvoir de mener ce peuple dans le pays qu`il avait juré de lui donner: c`est pour cela qu`il l`a égorgé dans le désert.
16. Satria tsy hain' i Jehovah ny hitondra ity firenena ity ho any amin' ny tany izay nianianany taminy, dia namono azy tany an' efitra Izy.
17. And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my LORD be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
17. Maintenant, que la puissance du Seigneur se montre dans sa grandeur, comme tu l`as déclaré en disant:
17. Ary ankehitriny, miangavy Anao aho, aoka ho lehibe ny herin' ny Tompoko araka ilay teninao hoe:
18. The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
18. "L`Éternel est lent à la colère et riche en bonté, il pardonne l`iniquité et la rébellion; mais il ne tient point le coupable pour innocent, et il punit l`iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu`à la troisième et la quatrième génération."
18. Mahari-po Jehovah sady be famindrampo, mamela heloka sy fahadisoana, kanefa tsy mety manamarina ny meloka, fa mamaly ny heloky ny ray amin' ny zanaka, hatramin' ny zafiafy sy ny zafindohalika.
19. Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
19. Pardonne l`iniquité de ce peuple, selon la grandeur de ta miséricorde, comme tu as pardonné à ce peuple depuis l`Égypte jusqu`ici.
19. Mifona aminao aho, mamelà ny helok' ity firenena ity araka ny haben' ny famindramponao, sy araka ny namelanao ny helok' ity firenena ity hatrany Egypta ka mandraka ankehitriny.
20. And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
20. Et l`Éternel dit: Je pardonne, comme tu l`as demandé.
20. Dia hoy Jehovah: Efa navelako, araka ny teninao.
21. But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
21. Mais, je suis vivant! et la gloire de l`Éternel remplira toute la terre.
21. Kanefa raha velona tokoa Aho, dia ho feno ny voninahitr' i Jehovah ny tany rehetra.
22. Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
22. Tous ceux qui ont vu ma gloire, et les prodiges que j`ai faits en Égypte et dans le désert, qui m`ont tenté déjà dix fois, et qui n`ont point écouté ma voix,
22. "Noho ireo lehilahy rehetra ireo, izay nahita ny voninahitro sy ny famantarako izay nataoko tany Egypta sy tany an' efitra, ary naka fanahy Ahy izao impolo izao, ka tsy nihaino ny feoko;"
23. Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
23. tous ceux-là ne verront point le pays que j`ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner, tous ceux qui m`ont méprisé ne le verront point.
23. Dia tsy hahita mihitsy ny tany izay nianianako tamin' ny razany izy, ary tsy hisy hahita izany izay nampahatezitra Ahy.
24. But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
24. Et parce que mon serviteur Caleb a été animé d`un autre esprit, et qu`il a pleinement suivi ma voie, je le ferai entrer dans le pays où il est allé, et ses descendants le posséderont.
24. Fa ny amin' i Kaleba mpanompoko, satria nanana fanahy hafa izy, ary feno ny fanarahany Ahy dia hoentiko ho any amin' ny tany izay nalehany izy, ary ny taranany handova izany.
25. (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
25. Les Amalécites et les Cananéens habitent la vallée: demain, tournez-vous, et partez pour le désert, dans la direction de la mer Rouge.
25. (Ary ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita dia nonina tao amin' ny lohasaha). Rahampitso dia miverena ianareo, ka mankanesa any an' efitra amin' ny lalana mankany amin' ny Ranomasina Mena.
26. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
26. L`Éternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron, et dit:
26. Ary Jehovah niteny tamin' i Mosesy sy Arona ka nanao hoe:
27. How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
27. Jusqu`à quand laisserai-je cette méchante assemblée murmurer contre moi? J`ai entendu les murmures des enfants d`Israël qui murmuraient contre moi.
27. Mandra-pahoviana no mbola handeferako amin' izao fiangonana ratsy, izay mimonomonona amiko izao? Efa reko ny fimonomononan' ny Zanak' Isiraely izay imonomononany amiko.
28. Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
28. Dis-leur: Je suis vivant! dit l`Éternel, je vous ferai ainsi que vous avez parlé à mes oreilles.
28. "Lazao aminy hoe: Raha velona koa Aho, hoy Jehovah, dia araka izay nolazainareo teo anatrehako no hataoko aminareo;"
29. Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,
29. Vos cadavres tomberont dans ce désert. Vous tous, dont on a fait le dénombrement, en vous comptant depuis l`âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, et qui avez murmuré contre moi,
29. "Ety amin' ity efitra ity no hiampatramparan' ny fatinareo; ary ianareo rehetra izay voaisa araka ny nanisana anareo, dia hatramin' ny roapolo taona no ho miakatra, izay efa nimonomonona tamiko,"
30. Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
30. vous n`entrerez point dans le pays que j`avais juré de vous faire habiter, excepté Caleb, fils de Jephunné, et Josué, fils de Nun.
30. Dia tsy isalasalana fa tsy ho tonga any amin' ny tany izay nianianako fa hamponenako anareo, afa-tsy Kaleba, zanakalahin' i Jefone sy Josoa, zanakalahin' i Nona.
31. But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
31. Et vos petits enfants, dont vous avez dit: Ils deviendront une proie! je les y ferai entrer, et ils connaîtront le pays que vous avez dédaigné.
31. Fa ny zanakareo madinika kosa, izay nolazainareo fa ho babo, dia izy no hoentiko miditra, ary izy no hahalala ny tany izay nolavinareo.
32. But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
32. "Vos cadavres, à vous, tomberont dans le désert;"
32. "Fa ny aminareo, dia hiampatrampatra amin' ity efitra ity ny fatinareo;"
33. And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
33. et vos enfants paîtront quarante années dans le désert, et porteront la peine de vos infidélités, jusqu`à ce que vos cadavres soient tous tombés dans le désert.
33. "Ary ny zanakareo hirenireny any an' efitra efapolo taona ka hiharan' ny valin' ny fijangajanganareo; mandra-pahasimban' ny fatinareo any an' efitra."
34. After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
34. "De même que vous avez mis quarante jours à explorer le pays, vous porterez la peine de vos iniquités quarante années, une année pour chaque jour; et vous saurez ce que c`est que d`être privé de ma présence."
34. Araka ny isan' ny andro efapolo izay nisafoanareo ny tany, ka ny andro iray hosoloana taona iray, no hitondranareo ny helokareo efapolo taona ka dia ho fantatrareo ny nanapahako ny fampanantenana.
35. I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
35. "Moi, l`Éternel, j`ai parlé! et c`est ainsi que je traiterai cette méchante assemblée qui s`est réunie contre moi; ils seront consumés dans ce désert, ils y mourront."
35. "Izaho Jehovah no efa nilaza fa hataoko tokoa izany amin' izao fiangonana ratsy rehetra izao, izay miangona hiodina amiko; ety amin' ity efitra ity no hahalevonany, ary ety no hahafatesany."
36. And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
36. "Les hommes que Moïse avait envoyés pour explorer le pays, et qui, à leur retour, avaient fait murmurer contre lui toute l`assemblée, en décriant le pays;"
36. Ary ny lehilahy izay nirahin' i Mosesy hisafo ny tany, dia izay niverina ka nampimonomonona ny fiangonana rehetra tamin' i Mosesy, satria nanao laza ratsy ny tany izy,
37. Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
37. ces hommes, qui avaient décrié le pays, moururent frappés d`une plaie devant l`Éternel.
37. Dia matin' ny areti-mandringana teo anatrehan' i Jehovah ireny lehilahy nilaza ratsy ny tany ireny.
38. But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
38. Josué, fils de Nun, et Caleb, fils de Jephunné, restèrent seuls vivants parmi ces hommes qui étaient allés pour explorer le pays.
38. Fa Josoa, zanakalahin' i Nona sy Kaleba, zanakalahin' i Jefone kosa izay isan' ny lehilahy nandeha nisafo ny tany, dia velona ihany.
39. And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
39. Moïse rapporta ces choses à tous les enfants d`Israël, et le peuple fut dans une grande désolation.
39. Dia nolazain' i Mosesy tamin' ny Zanak' Isiraely rehetra izany teny izany, ka dia nanjoretra indrindra ny olona.
40. And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.
40. Ils se levèrent de bon matin, et montèrent au sommet de la montagne, en disant: Nous voici! nous monterons au lieu dont a parlé l`Éternel, car nous avons péché.
40. Dia nifoha maraina koa izy ary niakatra tany an-tampon' ny tendrombohitra ka nanao hoe: Indreto izahay hiakatra ho any amin' ny tany izay nolazain' i Jehovah, fa efa nanota izahay.
41. And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.
41. Moïse dit: Pourquoi transgressez-vous l`ordre de l`Éternel? Cela ne réussira point.
41. Dia hoy Mosesy: Nahoana no mandika ny didin' i Jehovah ianareo ankehitriny? fa tsy hambinina izany.
42. Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.
42. Ne montez pas! car l`Éternel n`est pas au milieu de vous. Ne vous faites pas battre par vos ennemis.
42. Aza miakatra, fa tsy momba anareo Jehovah, mba tsy ho ringana eo anoloan' ny fahavalonareo ianareo.
43. For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.
43. Car les Amalécites et les Cananéens sont là devant vous, et vous tomberez par l`épée. Parce que vous vous êtes détournés de l`Éternel, l`Éternel ne sera point avec vous.
43. "Fa ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita dia eo anoloanareo, ka ho lavon-tsabatra ianareo; satria niala tamin' ny fanarahana an' i Jehovah ianareo, dia tsy homba anareo Jehovah."
44. But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
44. "Ils s`obstinèrent à monter au sommet de la montagne; mais l`arche de l`alliance et Moïse ne sortirent point du milieu du camp."
44. Fa nikiry hiakatra tao an-tampon' ny tendrombohitra izy, na dia tsy niala tao an-toby aza Mosesy sy ny fiaran' ny faneken' i Jehovah.
45. Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.
45. "Alors descendirent les Amalécites et les Cananéens qui habitaient cette montagne; ils les battirent, et les taillèrent en pièces jusqu`à Horma."
45. Dia nidina ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita izay nonina teo amin' izany havoana izany, ka namely azy ary nanorotoro azy hatrany Horma.
