Exploring Canaan
1. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2. Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
2. "Envoie des hommes pour explorer le pays de Canaan, que je donne aux enfants d`Israël. Tu enverras un homme de chacune des tribus de leurs pères; tous seront des principaux d`entre eux."
2. "Maniraha lehilahy hisafo ny tany Kanana, izay omeko ny Zanak' Isiraely; dia lehilahy iray avy isam-poko no hirahinareo, ka izay samy lohany eo aminy."
3. And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
3. "Moïse les envoya du désert de Paran, d`après l`ordre de l`Éternel; tous ces hommes étaient chefs des enfants d`Israël."
3. "Ary Mosesy dia naniraka azy hiala any an' efitra Parana, araka ny didin' i Jehovah; ary samy lohany eo amin' ny Zanak' Isiraely ireo lehilahy ireo."
4. And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
4. "Voici leurs noms. Pour la tribu de Ruben: Schammua, fils de Zaccur;"
4. "Ary izao no anarany: Avy tamin' ny fokon' i Robena, dia Samoa, zanakalahin' i Zakora;"
5. Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
5. "pour la tribu de Siméon: Schaphath, fils de Hori;"
5. "Avy tamin' ny fokon' i Simeona dia Safata, zanakalahin' i Hory;"
6. Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

7. Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

8. Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.

9. Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

10. Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

11. Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

12. Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

13. Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

14. Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

15. Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

16. These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
16. Tels sont les noms des hommes que Moïse envoya pour explorer le pays. Moïse donna à Hosée, fils de Nun, le nom de Josué.
16. Ireo no anaran' ny lehilahy izay nirahan' i Mosesy hisafo ny tany. Ary Hosea, zanakalahin' i Nona dia nataon' i Mosesy hoe: Josoa.
17. And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
17. "Moïse les envoya pour explorer le pays de Canaan. Il leur dit: Montez ici, par le midi; et vous monterez sur la montagne."
17. Ary Mosesy naniraka ireo hisafo ny tany Kanana, ka nanao taminy hoe: Miakara aty amin' ny tany atsimo ianareo, ka miakara ho any an-tendrombohitra.
18. And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
18. "Vous verrez le pays, ce qu`il est, et le peuple qui l`habite, s`il est fort ou faible, s`il est en petit ou en grand nombre;"
18. "Dia izahao ny toetry ny tany sy ny olona monina any, na mahery, na osa, na vitsy, na maro;"
19. And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
19. "ce qu`est le pays où il habite, s`il est bon ou mauvais; ce que sont les villes où il habite, si elles sont ouvertes ou fortifiées;"
19. "Ary izay toetry ny tany itoerany, na tsara, na ratsy; ary ny toetry ny tanàna izay itoerany, na ao an-day, na ao an-tanàna mimanda;"
20. And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
20. ce qu`est le terrain, s`il est gras ou maigre, s`il y a des arbres ou s`il n`y en a point. Ayez bon courage, et prenez des fruits du pays. C`était le temps des premiers raisins.
20. "Ary ny toetry ny tany, na lonaka, na màzana, na misy hazo eo, na tsia; ary mahereza ianareo, ka itondray ny vokatry ny tany. Ankehitriny izao dia fotoana fahamasahan' ny voaloboka mialintaona."
21. So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
21. Ils montèrent, et ils explorèrent le pays, depuis le désert de Tsin jusqu`à Rehob, sur le chemin de Hamath.
21. Dia niakatra ireo ka nizaha ny tany hatramin' ny efitra Zina ka hatrany Rehoba, dia eo akaikin' i Hamata.
22. And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
22. Ils montèrent, par le midi, et ils allèrent jusqu`à Hébron, où étaient Ahiman, Schéschaï et Talmaï, enfants d`Anak. Hébron avait été bâtie sept ans avant Tsoan en Égypte.
22. "Dia niakatra tao amin' ny tany atsimo izy ka nankany Hebrona; ary teo Ahimana sy Sesay ary Talmay, izay taranaky ny Anakita. (Ary Hebrona dia voaorina fito taona talohan' i Zoana any Egypta)."
23. And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
23. "Ils arrivèrent jusqu`à la vallée d`Eschcol, où ils coupèrent une branche de vigne avec une grappe de raisin, qu`ils portèrent à deux au moyen d`une perche; ils prirent aussi des grenades et des figues."
23. "Dia nankany amin' ny lohasaha Eskola izy, ka nanapaka sampam-boaloboka teo izay nisy sampahony iray ihany, ary nolanjain-droa lahy tamin' ny hazo izany; ary ny ampongabendanitra sy ny aviavim-bazaha dia nitondrany."
24. The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
24. On donna à ce lieu le nom de vallée d`Eschcol, à cause de la grappe que les enfants d`Israël y coupèrent.
24. Ary ny toerana dia nataony hoe lohasaha Eskola, noho ny sampahom-boaloboka izay notapahin' ny Zanak' Isiraely teo.
25. And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
25. Ils furent de retour de l`exploration du pays au bout de quarante jours.
25. Ary niverina avy nisafo ny tany ireo, nony afaka efapolo andro.
Report on the Exploration
26. And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
26. A leur arrivée, ils se rendirent auprès de Moïse et d`Aaron, et de toute l`assemblée des enfants d`Israël, à Kadès dans le désert de Paran. Ils leur firent un rapport, ainsi qu`à toute l`assemblée, et ils leur montrèrent les fruits du pays.
26. Dia nankeo amin' i Mosesy sy Arona ary ny fiangonan' ny Zanak' Isiraely, tany an' efitra Parana izy, dia tany Kadesy, ka nitondra teny taminy sy tamin' ny fiangonana rehetra sady naneho azy ny vokatry ny tany.
27. And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
27. Voici ce qu`ils racontèrent à Moïse: Nous sommes allés dans le pays où tu nous as envoyés. A la vérité, c`est un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, et en voici les fruits.
27. "Dia nilaza taminy izy ka nanao hoe: Tonga tany amin' ny tany izay nanirahanao anay izahay, koa tondra-dronono sy tantely tokoa izany; ary itony no vokatra avy tany."
28. Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
28. "Mais le peuple qui habite ce pays est puissant, les villes sont fortifiées, très grandes; nous y avons vu des enfants d`Anak."
28. "kanefa kosa mahery ny olona izay monina eo amin' ny tany; ary ny tanàna dia mimanda sady lehibe tokoa; ary koa nahita ny taranak' i Anaka tao izahay."
29. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
29. "Les Amalécites habitent la contrée du midi; les Héthiens, les Jébusiens et les Amoréens habitent la montagne; et les Cananéens habitent près de la mer et le long du Jourdain."
29. "Ny Amalekita no monina eo amin' ny tany atsimo; ary ny Hetita sy ny Jebosita ary ny Amorita no monina any an-tendrombohitra, ary ny Kananita no monina eo amoron' ny ranomasina sy eo amoron' i Jordana."
30. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
30. Caleb fit taire le peuple, qui murmurait contre Moïse. Il dit: Montons, emparons-nous du pays, nous y serons vainqueurs!
30. Fa Kaleba dia nampangina ny olona teo anatrehan' i Mosesy ka nanao hoe: Andeha isika hiakatra mihitsy mba hahazoantsika azy, fa afaka haharesy azy tokoa isika.
31. But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
31. Mais les hommes qui y étaient allés avec lui dirent: Nous ne pouvons pas monter contre ce peuple, car il est plus fort que nous.
31. "Fa hoy kosa ny lehilahy izay niara-niakatra taminy: Tsy mahazo miakatra handresy ny olona isika; fa mahery noho isika izy."
32. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
32. "Et ils décrièrent devant les enfants d`Israël le pays qu`ils avaient exploré. Ils dirent: Le pays que nous avons parcouru, pour l`explorer, est un pays qui dévore ses habitants; tous ceux que nous y avons vus sont des hommes d`une haute taille;"
32. Dia nilaza ratsy ny tany izay nosafoiny tamin' ny Zanak' Isiraely izy ka nanao hoe: Ny tany izay nalehanay nosafoina dia tany izay mandevona ny monina eo, ary ny olona rehetra izay hitanay teo dia olona goavambe.
33. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
33. et nous y avons vu les géants, enfants d`Anak, de la race des géants: nous étions à nos yeux et aux leurs comme des sauterelles.
33. "Ary nahita ny olona goavambe, taranak' i Anaka avy amin' ny olona goavambe izahay ary teo imasonay dia tahaka ny tsingentana izahay; ary toy izany koa izahay teo imasony."
