Ai Destroyed
1. And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
1. L`Éternel dit à Josué: Ne crains point, et ne t`effraie point! Prends avec toi tous les gens de guerre, lève-toi, monte contre Aï. Vois, je livre entre tes mains le roi d`Aï et son peuple, sa ville et son pays.
1. "Dia hoy Jehovah tamin' i Josoa: Aza matahotra na mivadi-po ianao, ento miaraka aminao ny vahoaka mpanafika rehetra, ka miaingà, iakaro i Ay; indro, efa natolotro eo an-tananao ny mpanjakan' i Ay mbamin' ny vahoakany sy ny tanànany ary ny taniny."
2. And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.
2. "Tu traiteras Aï et son roi comme tu as traité Jéricho et son roi; seulement vous garderez pour vous le butin et le bétail. Place une embuscade derrière la ville."
2. "Dia tahaka ny nataonao tamin' i Jeriko sy ny mpanjakany no hataonao koa amin' i Ay sy ny mpanjakany; nefa ny zavatra babo rehetra sy ny biby fiompy dia alainareo ho babo ho anareo ihany; asio otrika eo ankoatra ny tanàna."
3. So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.
3. Josué se leva avec tous les gens de guerre, pour monter contre Aï. Il choisit trente mille vaillants hommes, qu`il fit partir de nuit,

4. And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:
4. "et auxquels il donna cet ordre: Écoutez, vous vous mettrez en embuscade derrière la ville; ne vous éloignez pas beaucoup de la ville, et soyez tous prêts."
4. Dia nandidy azy ireo izy ka nanao hoe: Indro, ianareo hanotrika eo ivohon' ny tanàna hamely azy, ka aza manalavitra azy loatra, fa miomàna ianareo rehetra.
5. And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,
5. Mais moi et tout le peuple qui est avec moi, nous nous approcherons de la ville. Et quand ils sortiront à notre rencontre, comme la première fois, nous prendrons la fuite devant eux.
5. "Ary izaho sy ny vahoaka rehetra izay miaraka amiko kosa dia hanatona ny tanàna; ary izao no hiseho, rehefa mivoaka hamely anay tahaka ny tamin' ny voalohany ny olona, dia handositra eo anoloany izahay,"
6. (For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: therefore we will flee before them.
6. Ils nous poursuivront jusqu`à ce que nous les ayons attirés loin de la ville, car ils diront: Ils fuient devant nous, comme la première fois! Et nous fuirons devant eux.
6. "(Fa hivoaka hanenjika anay izy) mandra-pitarikay azy hiala avy ao an-tanàna; fa izy hanao hoe: mandositra eo anoloantsika tahaka ny teo aloha izy ireo, dia hanao tari-dositra eo anoloany izahay."
7. Then ye shall rise up from the ambush, and seize upon the city: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
7. Vous sortirez alors de l`embuscade, et vous vous emparerez de la ville, et l`Éternel, votre Dieu, la livrera entre vos mains.
7. "Ary dia hiroatra avy ao amin' ny fanotrehana kosa ianareo, ka ho azonareo ny tanàna; fa hatolotr' i Jehovah Andriamanitrareo eo an-tananareo izy."
8. And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the LORD shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.
8. Quand vous aurez pris la ville, vous y mettrez le feu, vous agirez comme l`Éternel l`a dit: c`est l`ordre que je vous donne.
8. "Ary izao no hisy, rehefa afaka ny tanàna, dia doroy amin' ny afo; araka ny didin' i Jehovah no hataonareo; indro, efa nandidy anareo aho."
9. Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
9. Josué les fit partir, et ils allèrent se placer en embuscade entre Béthel et Aï, à l`occident d`Aï. Mais Josué passa cette nuit-là au milieu du peuple.
9. "Dia nampandehanin' i Josoa izy ireo, ary nandeha hanotrika ka nitoetra teo andrefan' i Ay, teo anelanelan' i Betela sy Ay; fa Josoa kosa nitoetra teo amin' ny vahoaka ihany tamin' izany alina izany."
10. And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
10. Josué se leva de bon matin, passa le peuple en revue, et marcha contre Aï, à la tête du peuple, lui et les anciens d`Israël.

11. And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.
11. "Tous les gens de guerre qui étaient avec lui montèrent et s`approchèrent; lorsqu`ils furent arrivés en face de la ville, ils campèrent au nord d`Aï, dont ils étaient séparés par la vallée."
11. "Ary ny vahoaka rehetra mpanafika, izay niaraka tamin' i Josoa, dia niakatra ka nanakaiky sy nanandrify ny tanàna; ary nitoby teo avaratr' i Ay izy ireo, ka ny lohasaha no teo anelanelan' izy ireo sy Ay."
12. And he took about five thousand men, and set them to lie in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
12. Josué prit environ cinq mille hommes, et les mit en embuscade entre Béthel et Aï, à l`occident de la ville.
12. Dia naka olona tokony ho dimy arivo lahy izy ka nampanotrika azy teo anelanelan' i Betela sy Ay, andrefan' ny tanàna.
13. And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
13. Après que tout le camp eut pris position au nord de la ville, et l`embuscade à l`occident de la ville, Josué s`avança cette nuit-là au milieu de la vallée.
13. Ary rehefa voalahatry ny vahoaka ny toby rehetra izay teo avaratry ny tanàna sy ny otrika teo andrefan' ny tanàna, dia nandeha nankeo amin' ny lohasaha i Josoa tamin' izany alina izany.
14. And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he wist not that there were liers in ambush against him behind the city.
14. Lorsque le roi d`Aï vit cela, les gens d`Aï se levèrent en hâte de bon matin, et sortirent à la rencontre d`Israël, pour le combattre. Le roi se dirigea, avec tout son peuple, vers un lieu fixé, du côté de la plaine, et il ne savait pas qu`il y avait derrière la ville une embuscade contre lui.
14. "Ary izao no niseho, rehefa hitan' ny mpanjakan' i Ay izany, dia niolomay sy nifoha maraina koa ireo sy ny olona tao an-tanàna ka nivoaka faingana hiady tamin' ny Isiraely, tamin' ny fotoana nifamotoanany tandrifin' ny tany lemaka, dia ny mpanjaka sy ny vahoakany; fa tsy fantany ho nisy otrika hamely azy tao ankoatra ny tanàna."
15. And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
15. Josué et tout Israël feignirent d`être battus devant eux, et ils s`enfuirent par le chemin du désert.
15. Ary Josoa sy ny Isiraely rehetra nody resy teo anoloany ka nanao tari-dositra tamin' ny lalana mankany an' efitra.
16. And all the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
16. Alors tout le peuple qui était dans la ville s`assembla pour se mettre à leur poursuite. Ils poursuivirent Josué, et ils furent attirés loin de la ville.
16. Dia nifampiantso hanenjika azy ny vahoaka rehetra izay tao Ay, ary nanenjika an' i Josoa izy, ka dia voatarika ho tafavoaka ny tanàna.
17. And there was not a man left in Ai or Bethel, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
17. Il n`y eut dans Aï et dans Béthel pas un homme qui ne sortit contre Israël. Ils laissèrent la ville ouverte, et poursuivirent Israël.
17. "Ary tsy nisy lehilahy sisa na tao Ay, na tao Betela, izay tsy nivoaka nanenjika ny Isiraely; ary nilaozany mbola nivoha ny vavahady, ka lasa nanenjika ny Isiraely izy ireo."
18. And the LORD said unto Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thine hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that he had in his hand toward the city.
18. L`Éternel dit à Josué: Étends vers Aï le javelot que tu as à la main, car je vais la livrer en ton pouvoir. Et Josué étendit vers la ville le javelot qu`il avait à la main.
18. "Ary hoy Jehovah tamin' i Josoa: Atondroy an' i Ay ny lefona izay eny an-tananao; fa hatolotro eo an-tananao izany. Dia natondron' i Josoa ny tanàna ny lefona izay teny an-tanany."
19. And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand: and they entered into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.
19. "Aussitôt qu`il eut étendu sa main, les hommes en embuscade sortirent précipitamment du lieu où ils étaient; ils pénétrèrent dans la ville, la prirent, et se hâtèrent d`y mettre le feu."
19. "Dia niroatra faingana ny otrika avy tao amin' ny nitoerany ka nihazakazaka, raha vao natondrony ny tanany; dia niditra tao an-tanàna izy ireo ka nahafaka azy ary nandoro azy faingana tamin' ny afo."
20. And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
20. "Les gens d`Aï, ayant regardé derrière eux, virent la fumée de la ville monter vers le ciel, et ils ne purent se sauver d`aucun côté. Le peuple qui fuyait vers le désert se retourna contre ceux qui le poursuivaient;"
20. "Ary raha niherika teo ivohony ny lehilahy tao Ay, dia hitany fa, indro, ny setroky ny tanàna niakatra ho any an-danitra, sady tsy nanan-kery handosirana izy ireo, na ho aty, na ho ery; fa ny Isiraely izay nanao tari-dositra tany an' efitra dia nifotitra hamely ny mpanenjika kosa."
21. And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.
21. car Josué et tout Israël, voyant la ville prise par les hommes de l`embuscade, et la fumée de la ville qui montait, se retournèrent et battirent les gens d`Aï.
21. Fa rehefa hitan' i Josoa sy ny Isiraely fa efa azon' ny otrika ny tanàna, ka niakatra ny setroky ny tanàna, dia nifotitra izy ka namely ny mponina tao Ay.
22. And the other issued out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
22. "Les autres sortirent de la ville à leur rencontre, et les gens d`Aï furent enveloppés par Israël de toutes parts. Israël les battit, sans leur laisser un survivant ni un fuyard;"
22. "Ary nivoaka hamely azy ireo avy tao an-tanàna, ka dia latsaka teo afovoan' ny Isiraely ny olona, fa ny Isiraely sasany teo an-daniny iray, ary ny sasany teo an-daniny iray koa; dia nifandafaran' ny Isiraely teo izy ireo, ka tsy nasiany niangana na afa-nandositra, na dia iray akory aza."
23. And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.
23. ils prirent vivant le roi d`Aï, et l`amenèrent à Josué.
23. Ary ny mpanjakan' i Ay nataony sambo-belona ka nentiny teo amin' i Josoa.
24. And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they chased them, and when they were all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
24. Lorsqu`Israël eut achevé de tuer tous les habitants d`Aï dans la campagne, dans le désert, où ils l`avaient poursuivi, et que tous furent entièrement passés au fil de l`épée, tout Israël revint vers Aï et la frappa du tranchant de l`épée.
24. Ary izao no niseho, rehefa namono ny mponina rehetra tao Ay tany an-tsaha ny Isiraely, dia tany amin' ny efitra nanenjehany azy, ka lavo tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra avokoa izy rehetra mandra-pahalany ritrany, dia niverina tany Ay ny Isiraely rehetra ka namely azy tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra.
25. And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
25. Il y eut au total douze mille personnes tuées ce jour-là, hommes et femmes, tous gens d`Aï.
25. Ary izao no zava-nisy, izay rehetra maty tamin' izany andro izany, na lehilahy na vehivavy, dia roa arivo amby iray alina, dia ny mponina rehetra tao Ay.
26. For Joshua drew not his hand back, wherewith he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
26. Josué ne retira point sa main qu`il tenait étendue avec le javelot, jusqu`à ce que tous les habitants eussent été dévoués par interdit.
26. Fa Josoa tsy nampihemotra ny tanany izay nanondro tamin' ny lefona mandra-pandringana tanteraka ny mponina rehetra tao Ay.
27. Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.
27. Seulement Israël garda pour lui le bétail et le butin de cette ville, selon l`ordre que l`Éternel avait prescrit à Josué.
27. Nefa ny biby fiompy mbamin' ny zavatra rehetra azo babo tao amin' izany tanàna izany dia nalain' ny Isiraely ho babony ihany araka ny tenin' i Jehovah izay nandidiany an' i Josoa.
28. And Joshua burnt Ai, and made it an heap for ever, even a desolation unto this day.
28. Josué brûla Aï, et en fit à jamais un monceau de ruines, qui subsiste encore aujourd`hui.
28. Ary Ay dia nodoran' i Josoa ka nataony ho tanàna aolo mandrakizay sy lao mandraka androany.
29. And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his carcase down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise thereon a great heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day.
29. "Il fit pendre à un bois le roi d`Aï, et l`y laissa jusqu`au soir. Au coucher du soleil, Josué ordonna qu`on descendît son cadavre du bois; on le jeta à l`entrée de la porte de la ville, et l`on éleva sur lui un grand monceau de pierres, qui subsiste encore aujourd`hui."
29. "Ary ny mpanjakan' i Ay nahantony tamin' ny hazo mandra-paharivan' ny andro; ary raha vao maty ny masoandro, dia nandidy i Josoa ny hanesorana ny fatiny tamin' ny hazo ka nariany teo anoloan' ny vavahadin' ny tanàna ary teo no nananganany antontam-bato avo izay ao mandraka androany."
The Covenant Renewed at Mount Ebal
30. Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal,
30. Alors Josué bâtit un autel à l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël, sur le mont Ébal,
30. Ary tamin' izany Josoa dia nanorina alitara tao an-tendrombohitra Ebala ho an' i Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny Isiraely,
31. As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
31. comme Moïse, serviteur de l`Éternel, l`avait ordonné aux enfants d`Israël, et comme il est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse: c`était un autel de pierres brutes, sur lesquelles on ne porta point le fer. Ils offrirent sur cet autel des holocaustes à l`Éternel, et ils présentèrent des sacrifices d`actions de grâces.
31. "Araka izay nandidian' i Mosesy, mpanompon' i Jehovah, ny Zanak' Isiraely, dia araka ny voasoratra eo amin' ny bokin' ny lalàn' i Mosesy, dia alitara vato tsy voavoatra, izay tsy nopehim-by; ary dia nanolotra fanatitra dorana teo amboniny ho an' i Jehovah izy sady nanao fanatitra ho fanati-pihavanana."
32. And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
32. Et là Josué écrivit sur les pierres une copie de la loi que Moïse avait écrite devant les enfants d`Israël.
32. Dia nosoratany teo amin' ny vato ny dikan' ny lalàn' i Mosesy, izay efa nosoratany teo anatrehan' ny Zanak' Isiraely.
33. And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount Gerizim, and half of them over against mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.
33. "Tout Israël, ses anciens, ses officiers et ses juges, se tenaient des deux côtés de l`arche, devant les sacrificateurs, les Lévites, qui portaient l`arche de l`alliance de l`Éternel; les étrangers comme les enfants d`Israël étaient là, moitié du côté du mont Garizim, moitié du côté du mont Ébal, selon l`ordre qu`avait précédemment donné Moïse, serviteur de l`Éternel, de bénir le peuple d`Israël."
33. "Ary ny Isiraely rehetra sy ny loholony sy ny mpifehy azy ary ny mpitsara azy dia nitsangana teo an-daniny roa tamin' ny fiara, teo anatrehan' ny Levita mpisorona, izay nitondra ny fiaran' ny faneken' i Jehovah, na vahiny na izay tera-tany teo aminy; ny antsasany nanandrify ny tendrombohitra Gerizima, ary ny an-tsasany nanandrify ny tendrombohitra Ebala, araka izay efa nandidian' i Mosesy, mpanompon' i Jehovah fahiny, mba hitsofany rano ny olon' ny Isiraely."
34. And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
34. Josué lut ensuite toutes les paroles de la loi, les bénédictions et les malédictions, suivant ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi.
34. Ary rehefa afaka izany, dia namaky ny tenin' ny lalàna rehetra izy, dia ny fitahiana sy ny fanozonana, araka izay rehetra voasoratra eo amin' ny bokin' ny lalàna.
35. There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.
35. Il n`y eut rien de tout ce que Moïse avait prescrit, que Josué ne lût en présence de toute l`assemblée d`Israël, des femmes et des enfants, et des étrangers qui marchaient au milieu d`eux.
35. Tsy nisy teny tamin' izay rehetra nandidian' i Mosesy, izay tsy novakin' i Josoa teo anatrehan' ny fiangonan' ny Isiraely rehetra, mbamin' ny vehivavy sy ny ankizy madinika ary ny vahiny izay nifampiresaka taminy.
