Rahab and the Spies
1. And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
1. Josué, fils de Nun, fit partir secrètement de Sittim deux espions, en leur disant: Allez, examinez le pays, et en particulier Jéricho. Ils partirent, et ils arrivèrent dans la maison d`une prostituée, qui se nommait Rahab, et ils y couchèrent.
1. Ary Josoa, zanak' i Nona, dia naniraka mpisafo roa lahy mangingina avy tany Sitima ka niteny taminy hoe: Mandehana, izahao ny tany, indrindra fa i Jeriko. Dia niainga izy roa lahy ary niditra tao an-tranon' ny vehivavy janga anankiray atao hoe Rahaba, ka nandry tao.
2. And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
2. On dit au roi de Jéricho: Voici, des hommes d`entre les enfants d`Israël sont arrivés ici, cette nuit, pour explorer le pays.
2. Ary nisy nilaza tamin' ny mpanjakan' i Jeriko hoe: Indro, misy lehilahy avy tamin' ny Zanak' Isiraely tonga aty izao alina izao hisafo ny tany.
3. And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
3. "Le roi de Jéricho envoya dire à Rahab: Fais sortir les hommes qui sont venus chez toi, qui sont entrés dans ta maison; car c`est pour explorer tout le pays qu`ils sont venus."
3. Ary naniraka tao amin' i Rahaba ny mpanjakan' i Jeriko ka nanao hoe: Avoahy ireo lehilahy izay tonga ao aminao ka niditra ao an-tranonao, fa hisafo ny tany rehetra no niaviany.
4. And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
4. "La femme prit les deux hommes, et les cacha; et elle dit: Il est vrai que ces hommes sont arrivés chez moi, mais je ne savais pas d`où ils étaient;"
4. "Fa nalain-dravehivavy izy roa lahy ka nafeniny, ary hoy izy: Tonga taty amiko ireny lehilahy ireny, nefa tsy fantatro izay niaviany;"
5. And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
5. "et, comme la porte a dû se fermer de nuit, ces hommes sont sortis; j`ignore où ils sont allés: hâtez-vous de les poursuivre et vous les atteindrez."
5. "Ary izao no niseho, tamin' ny fotoana fanidiana ny vavahady, rehefa maizina ny andro, dia lasa nivoaka ireo lehilahy ireo; ka tsy fantatro izay nalehany, enjeho faingana izy, fa ho tratranareo."
6. But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
6. Elle les avait fait monter sur le toit, et les avait cachés sous des tiges de lin, qu`elle avait arrangées sur le toit.
6. Kanjo efa nampiakarin-dravehivavy any an-tampon-trano izy ireo ka nafeniny tao amin' ny tahon-drongony, izay nalahany teo amin' ny tampon-trano.
7. And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
7. Ces gens les poursuivirent par le chemin qui mène au gué du Jourdain, et l`on ferma la porte après qu`ils furent sortis.
7. "Ary ireo olona dia nanenjika azy ireo tamin' ny lalana mankany Jordana hatrany amin' ny fitàna; ary rehefa lasa nivoaka izay nanenjika azy ireo, dia nohidiana ny vavahady."
8. And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
8. Avant que les espions se couchassent, Rahab monta vers eux sur le toit
8. Ary raha mbola tsy natory izy roa lahy, dia niakatra nankao aminy tao an-tampon-trano ravehivavy,
9. And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
9. et leur dit: L`Éternel, je le sais, vous a donné ce pays, la terreur que vous inspirez nous a saisis, et tous les habitants du pays tremblent devant vous.
9. Dia hoy ravehivavy taminy: Fantatro fa efa nomen' i Jehovah anareo ny tany, ary efa latsaka aminay ny tahotra anareo, sady efa ketraka ny mponina rehetra amin' ny tany noho ny aminareo.
10. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
10. Car nous avons appris comment, à votre sortie d`Égypte, l`Éternel a mis à sec devant vous les eaux de la mer Rouge, et comment vous avez traité les deux rois des Amoréens au delà du Jourdain, Sihon et Og, que vous avez dévoués par interdit.
10. Fa efa renay ny nanamainan' i Jehovah ny ranon' ny Ranomasina Mena ho anareo, tamin' ny nivoahanareo avy tany Egypta sy izay nataonareo tamin' ny mpanjaka roa tamin' ny Amorita, izay tany an-dafin' i Jordana dia i Sihona sy Oga, izay novonoinareo tanteraka.
11. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
11. "Nous l`avons appris, et nous avons perdu courage, et tous nos esprits sont abattus à votre aspect; car c`est l`Éternel, votre Dieu, qui est Dieu en haut dans les cieux et en bas sur la terre."
11. Koa raha vao renay izany zavatra izany, dia ketraka ny fonay, ka tsy nisy nanana faherezana teo aminy ny olona noho ny aminareo, fa Jehovah Andriamanitrareo, Izy no Andriamanitra any amin' ny lanitra ambony sy ety amin' ny tany ambany.
12. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:
12. Et maintenant, je vous prie, jurez-moi par l`Éternel que vous aurez pour la maison de mon père la même bonté que j`ai eue pour vous.
12. "Koa ankehitriny, masìna ianareo, mba ianiano amin' i Jehovah aho, fa araka ny nanehoako fahatsarana taminareo no aoka hanehoanareo koa fahatsarana amin' ny ankohonan' ny raiko, ka omeo famantarana marina aho;"
13. And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
13. Donnez-moi l`assurance que vous laisserez vivre mon père, ma mère, mes frères, mes soeurs, et tous ceux qui leur appartiennent, et que vous nous sauverez de la mort.
13. "Fa hovelominareo ny raiko sy ny reniko sy ny anadahiko sy ny rahavaviko ary izay rehetra mety ho azy; dia hamonjy ny ainay tsy ho faty ianareo."
14. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
14. "Ces hommes lui répondirent: Nous sommes prêts à mourir pour vous, si vous ne divulguez pas ce qui nous concerne; et quand l`Éternel nous donnera le pays, nous agirons envers toi avec bonté et fidélité."
14. "Ary ireo lehilahy ireo namaly azy hoe: ny ainay no ho takalon' ny ainareo raha tsy holazainareo izao raharahanay izao; ary izao no hisy, rehefa omen' i Jehovah anay ny tany, dia hasianay soa sy hanao izay marina aminao izahay."
15. Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
15. Elle les fit descendre avec une corde par la fenêtre, car la maison qu`elle habitait était sur la muraille de la ville.
15. "Dia nampidina azy ireo tamin' ny mahazaka avy teo amin' ny varavarankely izy; fa teo amin' ny mandan' ny tanàna ny tranony, ary teo amin' ny manda no nitoerany."
16. And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
16. "Elle leur dit: Allez du côté de la montagne, de peur que ceux qui vous poursuivent ne vous rencontrent; cachez-vous là pendant trois jours, jusqu`à ce qu`ils soient de retour; après cela, vous suivrez votre chemin."
16. Dia hoy izy tamin' ireo: Mandehana any an-tendrombohitra ianareo fandrao hifanena aminareo ny mpanenjika, ka miere any hateloana mandra-piveriny, ary aorian' izany vao mandehana any amin' ny alehanareo ianareo.
17. And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
17. Ces hommes lui dirent: Voici de quelle manière nous serons quittes du serment que tu nous as fait faire.
17. Ary hoy izy roa lahy taminy: Izao no tsy hanananay tsiny ny amin' izany fianianana nampianianinao anay izany:
18. Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
18. A notre entrée dans le pays, attache ce cordon de fil cramoisi à la fenêtre par laquelle tu nous fais descendre, et recueille auprès de toi dans la maison ton père, ta mère, tes frères, et toute la famille de ton père.
18. "Indro, rehefa tonga eto amin' ny tany izahay, dia hafehinao eo amin' ny varavarankely izay nampidinanao anay io kofehy jaky io; ary ny rainao sy ny reninao sy ny anadahinao mbamin' ny ankohonan' ny rainao rehetra dia hovorinao ho ao an-tranonao;"
19. And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
19. "Si quelqu`un d`eux sort de la porte de ta maison pour aller dehors, son sang retombera sur sa tête, et nous en serons innocent; mais si on met la main sur l`un quelconque de ceux qui seront avec toi dans la maison, son sang retombera sur notre tête."
19. "Ary izao no hisy, izay rehetra mivoaka eo am-baravaran' ny tranonao ho eny an-dalana, dia ho eo an-dohany ihany ny rany, ary izahay tsy hanan-tsiny; fa izay rehetra hitoetra ao aminao ao an-trano, dia ho eo an-dohanay kosa ny rany, raha tàhiny misy olona maninona azy akory;"
20. And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
20. Et si tu divulgues ce qui nous concerne, nous serons quittes du serment que tu nous as fait faire.
20. Fa raha tàhiny hambarambaranao izao raharahanay izao, dia ho afaka amin' ny fianianana izay nampianianinao anay izahay.
21. And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
21. Elle répondit: Qu`il en soit selon vos paroles. Elle prit ainsi congé d`eux, et ils s`en allèrent. Et elle attacha le cordon de cramoisi à la fenêtre.
21. "Ary hoy ravehivavy: Araka ny teninareo, dia hatao izany. Dia nampandehaniny izy roa lahy, ka lasa ireo; ary nafehiny teo amin' ny varavarankely ilay kofehy jaky."
22. And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
22. Ils partirent, et arrivèrent à la montagne, où ils restèrent trois jours, jusqu`à ce que ceux qui les poursuivaient fussent de retour. Ceux qui les poursuivaient les cherchèrent par tout le chemin, mais ils ne les trouvèrent pas.
22. "Dia nandeha izy roa lahy ka nankany an-tendrombohitra ary nitoetra tany hateloana mandra-piverin' ny mpanenjika; ary nitady azy tamin' ny lalana rehetra ny mpanenjika, nefa tsy nahita."
23. So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
23. Les deux hommes s`en retournèrent, descendirent de la montagne, et passèrent le Jourdain. Ils vinrent auprès de Josué, fils de Nun, et lui racontèrent tout ce qui leur était arrivé.
23. Dia niverina izy roa lahy ka nidina avy tany an-tendrombohitra, dia nita ary nankany amin' i Josoa, zanak' i Nona, ka nilaza ny zavatra rehetra izay efa nihatra taminy,
24. And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
24. Ils dirent à Josué: Certainement, l`Éternel a livré tout le pays entre nos mains, et même tous les habitants du pays tremblent devant nous.
24. "Ka hoy izy ireo tamin' i Josoa: Efa natolotr' i Jehovah eo an-tanantsika tokoa ny tany rehetra; ary efa ketraka tokoa ny mponina rehetra amin' ny tany noho ny amintsika."
