The Sun Stands Still
1. Now it came to pass, when Adonizedec king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

2. That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

3. Wherefore Adonizedec king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

4. Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

5. Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.
5. "Cinq rois des Amoréens, le roi de Jérusalem, le roi d`Hébron, le roi de Jarmuth, le roi de Lakis, le roi d`Églon, se réunirent ainsi et montèrent avec toutes leurs armées; ils vinrent camper près de Gabaon, et l`attaquèrent."

6. And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

7. So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.

8. And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

9. Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

10. And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
10. "L`Éternel les mit en déroute devant Israël; et Israël leur fit éprouver une grande défaite près de Gabaon, les poursuivit sur le chemin qui monte à Beth Horon, et les battit jusqu`à Azéka et à Makkéda."

11. And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.
11. "Comme ils fuyaient devant Israël, et qu`ils étaient à la descente de Beth Horon, l`Éternel fit tomber du ciel sur eux de grosses pierres jusqu`à Azéka, et ils périrent; ceux qui moururent par les pierres de grêle furent plus nombreux que ceux qui furent tués avec l`épée par les enfants d`Israël."
11. "Ary izao no niseho, nony nandositra teo anoloan' ny Isiraely teo am-pidinan' i Beti-horona izy ireo, Jehovah dia nandatsaka havandra vaventy taminy avy tany an-danitra hatrany azeka ka nahafaty azy ireo; ary be lavitra ny matin' ny havandra noho izay novonoin' ny Zanak' Isiraely tamin' ny sabatra."
12. Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
12. Alors Josué parla à l`Éternel, le jour où l`Éternel livra les Amoréens aux enfants d`Israël, et il dit en présence d`Israël: Soleil, arrête-toi sur Gabaon, Et toi, lune, sur la vallée d`Ajalon!

13. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
13. Et le soleil s`arrêta, et la lune suspendit sa course, Jusqu`à ce que la nation eût tiré vengeance de ses ennemis. Cela n`est-il pas écrit dans le livre du Juste? Le soleil s`arrêta au milieu du ciel, Et ne se hâta point de se coucher, presque tout un jour.

14. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
14. "Il n`y a point eu de jour comme celui-là, ni avant ni après, où l`Éternel ait écouté la voix d`un homme; car l`Éternel combattait pour Israël."
14. "Ary tsy nisy andro tahaka izany, na tany aloha, na tato aoriana, izay nihainoan' i Jehovah ny feon' ny olona; fa Jehovah niady ho an' ny Isiraely."
15. And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
15. Et Josué, et tout Israël avec lui, retourna au camp à Guilgal.

Five Amorite Kings Killed
16. But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.
16. Les cinq rois s`enfuirent, et se cachèrent dans une caverne à Makkéda.

17. And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.
17. On le rapporta à Josué, en disant: Les cinq rois se trouvent cachés dans une caverne à Makkéda.

18. And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:
18. Josué dit: Roulez de grosses pierres à l`entrée de la caverne, et mettez-y des hommes pour les garder.
18. Ary hoy Josoa: Manakodiava vato lehibe hatampina ny vavan' ny zohy, ary asio olona eo anoloany hiambina azy:
19. And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.
19. "Et vous, ne vous arrêtez pas, poursuivez vos ennemis, et attaquez-les par derrière; ne les laissez pas entrer dans leurs villes, car l`Éternel, votre Dieu, les a livrés entre vos mains."
19. "Fa ianareo aza mijanona, fa manenjeha ny fahavalonareo, ka mameleza ny vodi-lalany; aza avela ho tafiditra any an-tanànany ireny, fa efa natolotr' i Jehovah Andriamanitrareo eo an-tananareo."
20. And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.
20. Après que Josué et les enfants d`Israël leur eurent fait éprouver une très grande défaite, et les eurent complètement battus, ceux qui purent échapper se sauvèrent dans les villes fortifiées,
20. Ary izao no niseho, rehefa voaringan' i Josoa sy ny Zanak' Isiraely tamin' ny fandringanana lehibe ireny mandra-pahalany ritrany, dia izay afa-nandositra no lasa niditra tany amin' ny tanàna mimanda.
21. And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.
21. et tout le peuple revint tranquillement au camp vers Josué à Makkéda, sans que personne remuât sa langue contre les enfants d`Israël.
21. "Dia niverina soa aman-tsara ho any amin' i Josoa teo an-toby tany Makeda ny vahoaka rehetra; ary tsy nisy sahy nanetsika ny lelany hanohitra, na dia iray tamin' ny Zanak' Isiraely aza."
22. Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.
22. Josué dit alors: Ouvrez l`entrée de la caverne, faites-en sortir ces cinq rois, et amenez-les-moi.
22. Dia hoy Josoa: Sokafy ny vavan' ny zohy, ka avoahy avy ao an-johy ireo mpanjaka dimy ireo hankaty amiko.
23. And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
23. Ils firent ainsi, et lui amenèrent les cinq rois qu`ils avaient fait sortir de la caverne, le roi de Jérusalem, le roi d`Hébron, le roi de Jarmuth, le roi de Lakis, le roi d`Églon.

24. And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
24. Lorsqu`ils eurent amené ces rois devant Josué, Josué appela tous les hommes d`Israël, et dit aux chefs des gens de guerre qui avaient marché avec lui: Approchez-vous, mettez vos pieds sur les cous de ces rois. Ils s`approchèrent, et ils mirent les pieds sur leurs cous.
24. Ary izao no niseho, rehefa navoakany ho eo amin' i Josoa ireo mpanjaka ireo, dia niantso ny lehilahy rehetra amin' ny Isiraely i Josoa ka nanao tamin' ny mpitarika ny mpiady izay teo aminy hoe: Manatòna, ka ataovy eo amin' ny vozon' ireto mpanjaka ireto ny tongotrareo. Dia nanatona izy ireo ka nanao ny tongony teo amin' ny vozon' ireo.
25. And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
25. Josué leur dit: Ne craignez point et ne vous effrayez point, fortifiez-vous et ayez du courage, car c`est ainsi que l`Éternel traitera tous vos ennemis contre lesquels vous combattez.
25. "Ary hoy Josoa taminy: Aza matahotra na mivadi-po; mahereza sy matanjaha; fa toy izao no hataon' i Jehovah amin' ny fahavalonareo rehetra izay iadianareo."
26. And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.
26. "Après cela, Josué les frappa et les fit mourir; il les pendit à cinq arbres, et ils restèrent pendus aux arbres jusqu`au soir."
26. "Ary rehefa afaka izany, dia namely ireo i Josoa ka nahafaty azy, ary nahantony tamin' ny hazo dimy ny fatiny; ka dia nihantona tamin' ny hazo izy ireo mandra-paharivan' ny andro."
27. And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.
27. Vers le coucher du soleil, Josué ordonna qu`on les descendît des arbres, on les jeta dans la caverne où ils s`étaient cachés, et l`on mit à l`entrée de la caverne de grosses pierres, qui y sont demeurées jusqu`à ce jour.
27. Ary izao no niseho, tamin' ny fotoana nilentehan' ny masoandro dia nandidy i Josoa hanesorana azy ireo tamin' ny hazo, ka nariany tao anatin' ny zohy niereny, ary nasiany vato lehibe teo amin' ny vavan' ny zohy, ka mbola ao izany mandraka androany.
28. And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.
28. "Josué prit Makkéda le même jour, et la frappa du tranchant de l`épée; il dévoua par interdit le roi, la ville et tous ceux qui s`y trouvaient; il n`en laissa échapper aucun, et il traita le roi de Makkéda comme il avait traité le roi de Jéricho."
28. "Ary Makeda dia afak' i Josoa tamin' izany andro izany, ka nasiany tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra izy sy ny mpanjakany; ary ny olona rehetra tao dia naringany avokoa ka tsy nasiany niangana na dia iray akory aza; ary tahaka izay nataony tamin' ny mpanjakan' i Jeriko, no nataony tamin' ny mpanjakan' i Makeda koa."
Southern Cities Conquered
29. Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:
29. Josué, et tout Israël avec lui, passa de Makkéda à Libna, et il attaqua Libna.
29. "Ary Josoa sy ny Isiraely rehetra teo aminy dia niala tany Makeda ka nankany Libna ary niady tamin' i Libna;"
30. And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.
30. "L`Éternel la livra aussi, avec son roi, entre les mains d`Israël, et la frappa du tranchant de l`épée, elle et tous ceux qui s`y trouvaient; il n`en laissa échapper aucun, et il traita son roi comme il avait traité le roi de Jéricho."
30. "Dia natolotr' i Jehovah teo an-tanan' ny Isiraely koa izany sy ny mpanjakany ka nasiany tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra izy mbamin' ny olona rehetra tao; tsy nasiany niangana na dia iray akory aza; fa tahaka izay efa nataony tamin' ny mpanjakan' i Jeriko no nataony tamin' ny mpanjakany koa."
31. And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:
31. "Josué, et tout Israël avec lui, passa de Libna à Lakis; il campa devant elle, et il l`attaqua."
31. Dia niala tany Libna i Josoa sy ny Isiraely rehetra teo aminy ka nankany Lakisy, dia nitoby tandrifiny ka namely azy.
32. And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.
32. L`Éternel livra Lakis entre les mains d`Israël, qui la prit le second jour, et la frappa du tranchant de l`épée, elle et tous ceux qui s`y trouvaient, comme il avait traité Libna.

33. Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.
33. Alors Horam, roi de Guézer, monta pour secourir Lakis. Josué le battit, lui et son peuple, sans laisser échapper personne.

34. And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:
34. "Josué, et tout Israël avec lui, passa de Lakis à Églon; ils campèrent devant elle, et ils l`attaquèrent."

35. And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.
35. "Ils la prirent le même jour, et la frappèrent du tranchant de l`épée, elle et tous ceux qui s`y trouvaient; Josué la dévoua par interdit le jour même, comme il avait traité Lakis."
35. "Dia afany tamin' izany andro izany izy, ka nasiany tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra; ary ny olona rehetra tao dia naringany tanteraka tokoa tamin' izany andro izany tahaka izay rehetra efa nataony tamin' i Lakisy."
36. And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:
36. Josué, et tout Israël avec lui, monta d`Églon à Hébron, et ils l`attaquèrent.

37. And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.
37. "Ils la prirent, et la frappèrent du tranchant de l`épée, elle, son roi, toutes les villes qui en dépendaient, et tous ceux qui s`y trouvaient; Josué n`en laissa échapper aucun, comme il avait fait à Églon, et il la dévoua par interdit avec tous ceux qui s`y trouvaient."

38. And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:
38. Josué, et tout Israël avec lui, se dirigea sur Debir, et il l`attaqua.
38. "Dia niverina Josoa sy ny Isiraely rehetra teo aminy ka nankany Debira ary niady taminy;"
39. And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.
39. "Il la prit, elle, son roi, et toutes les villes qui en dépendaient; ils les frappèrent du tranchant de l`épée, et ils dévouèrent par interdit tous ceux qui s`y trouvaient, sans en laisser échapper aucun; Josué traita Debir et son roi comme il avait traité Hébron et comme il avait traité Libna et son roi."
39. "Dia azony izy sy ny mpanjakany ary ny tanànany rehetra; ary nasiany tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra izy, ka naringany avokoa ny olona rehetra tao, fa tsy nasiany niangana na dia iray akory aza; tahaka izay efa nataony tamin' i Hebrona, dia toy izany koa no nataony tamin' i Debira sy ny mpanjakany, ary tahaka izay efa nataony tamin' i Libna sy ny mpanjakany koa."
40. So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.
40. "Josué battit tout le pays, la montagne, le midi, la plaine et les coteaux, et il en battit tous les rois; il ne laissa échapper personne, et il dévoua par interdit tout ce qui respirait, comme l`avait ordonné l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël."
40. Dia nasian' i Josoa ny tany rehetra sy ny mpanjakany rehetra, dia ny tany havoana sy ny tany atsimo sy ny tany lemaka ary ny loharano, ary tsy nasiany niangana, fa naringany tanteraka ny miaina rehetra, araka ny nandidian' i Jehovah Andriamanitry ny Isiraely.
41. And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.
41. Josué les battit de Kadès Barnéa à Gaza, il battit tout le pays de Gosen jusqu`à Gabaon.

42. And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.
