God Rejects Zedekiah's Request
1. The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,
1. La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l`Éternel, lorsque le roi Sédécias lui envoya Paschhur, fils de Malkija, et Sophonie, fils de Maaséja, le sacrificateur, pour lui dire:
1. Izao no teny tonga tamin' i Jeremia avy tamin' i Jehovah, fony Zedekia mpanjaka naniraka an' i Pasora, zanak' i Malkia, sy Zefania, zanak' i Mahaseia mpisorona, hankany aminy hanao hoe:
2. Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
2. "Consulte pour nous l`Éternel; car Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, nous fait la guerre; peut-être l`Éternel fera-t-il en notre faveur quelqu`un de ses miracles, afin qu`il s`éloigne de nous."
2. Masìna ianao, manontania amin' i Jehovah ho anay, fa miady aminay Nebokadnezara, mpanjakan' i Babylona, angamba Jehovah hanao aminay araka ny asany mahagaga rehetra, mba hialan' i Nebokadnezara aminay.
3. Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah:

4. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.
4. Ainsi parle l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël: Voici, je vais détourner les armes de guerre qui sont dans vos mains, et avec lesquelles vous combattez en dehors des murailles le roi de Babylone et les Chaldéens qui vous assiègent, et je les rassemblerai au milieu de cette ville.
4. Izao no lazain' i Jehovah Andriamanitry ny Isiraely: Indro, haveriko ny fiadiana eny an-tananareo, izay entinareo miady amin' ny mpanjakan' i Babylona sy amin' ny Kaldeana izay manao fahirano anareo eny ivelan' ny manda, ka hangoniko eto afovoan' ity tanàna ity ireo.
5. And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.
5. Puis je combattrai contre vous, la main étendue et le bras fort, avec colère, avec fureur, avec une grande irritation.

6. And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.
6. "Je frapperai les habitants de cette ville, les hommes et les bêtes; ils mourront d`une peste affreuse."

7. And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.
7. "Après cela, dit l`Éternel, je livrerai Sédécias, roi de Juda, ses serviteurs, le peuple, et ceux qui dans cette ville échapperont à la peste, à l`épée et à la famine, je les livrerai entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, entre les mains de leurs ennemis, entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie; et Nebucadnetsar les frappera du tranchant de l`épée, il ne les épargnera pas, il n`aura point de pitié, point de compassion."
7. "Ary rehefa afaka izany, hoy Jehovah, Zedekia, mpanjakan' ny Joda, sy ny mpanompony sy ny vahoaka ary izay sisa tsy matin' ny areti-mandringana sy ny sabatra sy ny mosary amin' ity tanàna ity dia hatolotro eo an-tanan' i Nebokadnezara, mpanjakan' i Babylona, sy eo an-tanan' ny fahavalony sy eo an-tanan' izay mitady ny ainy; dia hamely azy amin' ny lelan-tsabatra ireo, fa tsy hitsitsy na hiantra azy, na hamindra fo aminy."
8. And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.
8. Tu diras à ce peuple: Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Voici, je mets devant vous le chemin de la vie et le chemin de la mort.
8. Ary ity firenena ity dia hilazanao hoe: Izao no lazain' i Jehovah: Indro, ataoko eo anoloanareo ny lalan' ny fiainana sy ny lalan' ny fahafatesana:
9. He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.
9. "Celui qui restera dans cette ville mourra par l`épée, par la famine ou par la peste; mais celui qui sortira pour se rendre aux Chaldéens qui vous assiègent aura la vie sauve, et sa vie sera son butin."
9. Izay mbola mitoetra eto amin' ity tanàna ity ihany dia ho fatin-tsabatra sy mosary ary areti-mandringana, fa izay mivoaka hanatona ny Kaldeana izay manao fahirano anareo kosa dia ho velona, ka ny ainy no ho babony.
10. For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
10. "Car je dirige mes regards contre cette ville pour faire du mal et non du bien, dit l`Éternel; elle sera livrée entre les mains du roi de Babylone, qui la brûlera par le feu."
10. "Fa efa manandrina ity tanàna ity Aho hahatonga loza aminy, fa tsy soa, hoy Jehovah; hatolotro eo an-tanan' ny mpanjakan' i Babylona ity tanàna ity ka hodorany amin' ny afo."
11. And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
11. Et tu diras à la maison du roi de Juda: Écoutez la parole de l`Éternel!
11. Ary ny amin' ny mpianakavin' ny mpanjakan' ny Joda dia lazao hoe: Henoy ny tenin' i Jehovah:
12. O house of David, thus saith the LORD; Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
12. Maison de David! Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Rendez la justice dès le matin, Et délivrez l`opprimé des mains de l`oppresseur, De peur que ma colère n`éclate comme un feu, Et ne s`enflamme, sans qu`on puisse l`éteindre, A cause de la méchanceté de vos actions.
12. Ry taranak' i Davida, izao no lazain' i Jehovah: Mitsarà amin' ny maraina, ka afaho amin' ny tanan' ny mpampahory ny olona norobaina, fandrao mivoaka toy ny afo ny fahatezerako ary mirehitra ka tsy hisy hamono noho ny faharatsian' ny ataonareo.
13. Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?
13. Voici, j`en veux à toi, Ville assise dans la vallée, sur le rocher de la plaine, Dit l`Éternel, A vous qui dites: Qui descendra contre nous? Qui entrera dans nos demeures?
13. "Indro, manohitra anao Aho, ry mponina ao an-dohasaha, sy vatolampy amin' ny tany lemaka, hoy Jehovah; dia ianareo izay manao hoe: Iza moa no hidina hamely anay? na iza no hiditra ato amin' ny fonenanay?"
14. But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.
14. "Je vous châtierai selon le fruit de vos oeuvres, dit l`Éternel; Je mettrai le feu à votre forêt, Et il en dévorera tous les alentours."
