A Linen Belt
1. Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.
1. "Ainsi m`a parlé l`Éternel: Va, achète-toi une ceinture de lin, et mets-la sur tes reins; mais ne la trempe pas dans l`eau."

2. So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.
2. J`achetai la ceinture, selon la parole de l`Éternel, et je la mis sur mes reins.
2. Dia naka fehikibo aho araka ny tenin' i Jehovah ka nifehezako ny kiboko.
3. And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,
3. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée une seconde fois, en ces mots:

4. Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.
4. "Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée, et qui est sur tes reins; lève-toi, va vers l`Euphrate, et là, cache-la dans la fente d`un rocher."
4. Ento ny fehikibo izay nalainao, dia ilay ifehezanao ny kibonao, ka mitsangàna mankanesa any Eofrata, ary afeno ao an-davabato izany.
5. So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.
5. J`allai, et je la cachai près de l`Euphrate, comme l`Éternel me l`avait ordonné.

6. And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.
6. Plusieurs jours après, l`Éternel me dit: Lève-toi, va vers l`Euphrate, et là, prends la ceinture que je t`avais ordonné d`y cacher.

7. Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.
7. "J`allai vers l`Euphrate, je fouillai, et je pris la ceinture dans le lieu où je l`avais cachée; mais voici, la ceinture était gâtée, elle n`était plus bonne à rien."

8. Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

9. Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
9. Ainsi parle l`Éternel: C`est ainsi que je détruirai l`orgueil de Juda Et l`orgueil immense de Jérusalem.

10. This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.
10. Ce méchant peuple, qui refuse d`écouter mes paroles, Qui suit les penchants de son coeur, Et qui va après d`autres dieux, Pour les servir et se prosterner devant eux, Qu`il devienne comme cette ceinture, Qui n`est plus bonne à rien!

11. For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
11. Car comme on attache la ceinture aux reins d`un homme, Ainsi je m`étais attaché toute la maison d`Israël Et toute la maison de Juda, dit l`Éternel, Afin qu`elles fussent mon peuple, Mon nom, ma louange, et ma gloire. Mais ils ne m`ont point écouté.

12. Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?
12. Tu leur diras cette parole: Ainsi parle l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël: Tous les vases seront remplis de vin. Et ils te diront: Ne savons-nous pas Que tous les vases seront remplis de vin?

13. Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.
13. Alors dis-leur: Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Voici, je remplirai tous les habitants de ce pays, Les rois qui sont assis sur le trône de David, Les sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, Je les remplirai d`ivresse.
13. Dia holazainao aminy hoe: Izao no lazain' Jehovah: Indro, hofenoiko fahamamoana ny mponina rehetra amin' ity tany ity, dia ny mpanjaka izay mipetraka amin' ny sezafiandrianan' i Davida sy ny mpisorona sy ny mpaminany ary ny mponina rehetra any Jerosalema.
14. And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.
14. "Je les briserai les uns contre les autres, Les pères et les fils ensemble, dit l`Éternel; Je n`épargnerai pas, je n`aurai point de pitié, point de miséricorde, Rien ne m`empêchera de les détruire."

Threat of Captivity
15. Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.
15. Écoutez et prêtez l`oreille! Ne soyez point orgueilleux! Car l`Éternel parle.

16. Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.
16. "Rendez gloire à l`Éternel, votre Dieu, Avant qu`il fasse venir les ténèbres, Avant que vos pieds heurtent contre les montagnes de la nuit; Vous attendrez la lumière, Et il la changera en ombre de la mort, Il la réduira en obscurité profonde."

17. But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is carried away captive.

18. Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.
18. Dis au roi et à la reine: Asseyez-vous à terre! Car il est tombé de vos têtes, Le diadème qui vous servait d`ornement.

19. The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.
19. "Les villes du midi sont fermées, Il n`y a personne pour ouvrir; Tout Juda est emmené captif, Il est emmené tout entier captif."

20. Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

21. What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?
21. Que diras-tu de ce qu`il te châtie? C`est toi-même qui leur as appris à te traiter en maîtres. Les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles pas, Comme elles saisissent une femme en travail?

22. And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.
22. Si tu dis en ton coeur: Pourquoi cela m`arrive-t-il? C`est à cause de la multitude de tes iniquités Que les pans de tes habits sont relevés, Et que tes talons sont violemment mis à nu.
22. Ary raha manao anakampo ianao hoe: Ahoana no nahatonga izao zavatra izao tamiko? Noho ny haben' ny helokao no nampiaingana ny morontongotr' akanjonao sy nanehoana ny ombelahin-tongotrao.
23. Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
23. Un Éthiopien peut-il changer sa peau, Et un léopard ses taches? De même, pourriez-vous faire le bien, Vous qui êtes accoutumés à faire le mal?
23. Moa va mahova ny hodiny ny Etiopiana, ary ny leoparda va mahova ny sorany? Koa afaka hanao ny tsara moa ianareo izay zatra nanao ratsy.
24. Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

25. This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.
25. Voilà ton sort, la part que je te mesure, Dit l`Éternel, Parce que tu m`as oublié, Et que tu as mis ta confiance dans le mensonge.

26. Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.
26. Je relèverai tes pans jusque sur ton visage, Afin qu`on voie ta honte.
26. Noho izany, dia hampiainga ny morontongotr' akanjonao ho any amin' ny tavanao Aho mba hisehoan' ny henatrao.
27. I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?
27. J`ai vu tes adultères et tes hennissements, Tes criminelles prostitutions sur les collines et dans les champs, J`ai vu tes abominations. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! Jusques à quand tarderas-tu à te purifier?
