The Covenant Renewed at Shechem
1. And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
1. Josué assembla toutes les tribus d`Israël à Sichem, et il convoqua les anciens d`Israël, ses chefs, ses juges et ses officiers. Et ils se présentèrent devant Dieu.

2. And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
2. Josué dit à tout le peuple: Ainsi parle l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël: Vos pères, Térach, père d`Abraham et père de Nachor, habitaient anciennement de l`autre côté du fleuve, et ils servaient d`autres dieux.
2. "Ary hoy Josoa tamin' ny vahoaka rehetra: Izao no lazain' i Jehovah Andriamanitry ny Isiraely: Tany an-dafin' ny ony no nonenan' ny razanareo tany aloha, dia Tera, rain' i Abrahama, sy rain' i Nahora, ary nanompo andriamani-kafa ireo;"
3. And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
3. "Je pris votre père Abraham de l`autre côté du fleuve, et je lui fis parcourir tout le pays de Canaan; je multipliai sa postérité, et je lui donnai Isaac."

4. And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
4. Je donnai à Isaac Jacob et Ésaü, et je donnai en propriété à Ésaü la montagne de Séir, mais Jacob et ses fils descendirent en Égypte.

5. I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.
5. "J`envoyai Moïse et Aaron, et je frappai l`Égypte par les prodiges que j`opérai au milieu d`elle; puis je vous en fis sortir."

6. And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.
6. Je fis sortir vos pères de l`Égypte, et vous arrivâtes à la mer. Les Égyptiens poursuivirent vos pères jusqu`à la mer Rouge, avec des chars et des cavaliers.
6. "Dia nitondra ny razanareo nivoaka avy tany Egypta Aho, ka tonga teo amin' ny ranomasina ianareo; ary nanenjika ny razanareo hatreo amin' ny Ranomasina Mena ny Egyptiana, nitaingina kalesy sy soavaly."
7. And when they cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
7. Vos pères crièrent à l`Éternel. Et l`Éternel mit des ténèbres entre vous et les Égyptiens, il ramena sur eux la mer, et elle les couvrit. Vos yeux ont vu ce que j`ai fait aux Égyptiens. Et vous restâtes longtemps dans le désert.
7. "Ary raha nitaraina tamin' i Jehovah izy, dia nasiany maizina teo anelanelanareo sy ny Egyptiana, sady nakatony taminy ny ranomasina ka nasarony azy, ary ny masonareo nahita izay nataoko tany Egypta; ary nitoetra ela tany an' efitra ianareo."
8. And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
8. "Je vous conduisis dans le pays des Amoréens, qui habitaient de l`autre côté du Jourdain, et ils combattirent contre vous. Je les livrai entre vos mains; vous prîtes possession de leur pays, et je les détruisis devant vous."
8. "Ary nentiko ho any amin' ny tanin' ny Amorita, izay nonina tany an-dafin' i Jordana ianareo; dia niady taminareo ireo, ary nanolotra azy teo an-tananareo Aho, mba ho azonareo ny taniny, ary nandringana azy tsy ho eo anoloanareo Aho."
9. Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:
9. Balak, fils de Tsippor, roi de Moab, se leva et combattit Israël. Il fit appeler Balaam, fils de Beor, pour qu`il vous maudît.
9. "Dia nitsangana Balaka, zanak' i Zipora, mpanjakan' i Moaba, ka niady tamin' ny Isiraely; dia naniraka nampaka an' i Balama, zanak' i Beora izy, hanozona anareo."
10. But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.
10. "Mais je ne voulus point écouter Balaam; il vous bénit, et je vous délivrai de la main de Balak."
10. "Fa tsy nety nihaino an' i Balama Aho, koa nitsodrano anareo hatrany izy; ka dia nanafaka anareo tamin' ny tanany Aho."
11. And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.
11. Vous passâtes le Jourdain, et vous arrivâtes à Jéricho. Les habitants de Jéricho combattirent contre vous, les Amoréens, les Phéréziens, les Cananéens, les Héthiens, les Guirgasiens, les Héviens et les Jébusiens. Je les livrai entre vos mains,
11. "Ary nita an' i Jordana ianareo ka tonga tao Jeriko; dia niady taminareo ny lehilahy tao Jeriko, ny Amorita sy ny Perizita sy ny Kananita sy ny Hetita sy ny Girgasita sy ny Hivita ary ny Jebosita, ka natolotro teo an-tananareo ireny."
12. And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
12. et j`envoyai devant vous les frelons, qui les chassèrent loin de votre face, comme les deux rois des Amoréens: ce ne fut ni par ton épée, ni par ton arc.
12. Dia nampandehaniko teo anoloanareo ny fanenitra, izay nandroaka azy teo anoloanareo, dia ny mpanjaka roa tamin' ny Amorita, fa tsy tamin' ny sabatrao, na tamin' ny tsipìkanao.
13. And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
13. Je vous donnai un pays que vous n`aviez point cultivé, des villes que vous n`aviez point bâties et que vous habitez, des vignes et des oliviers que vous n`aviez point plantés et qui vous servent de nourriture.
13. "Ary nomeko tany izay tsy nasainareo ianareo sy tanàna izay tsy naorinareo, ka dia nonina tao ianareo; ary nihinana ny avy amin' ny tanimboaloboka sy ny taninoliva izay tsy nataonareo ianareo."
14. Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
14. Maintenant, craignez l`Éternel, et servez-le avec intégrité et fidélité. Faites disparaître les dieux qu`ont servis vos pères de l`autre côté du fleuve et en Égypte, et servez l`Éternel.
14. "Koa ankehitriny, matahora an' i Jehovah, ka manompoa Azy amin' ny fahitsiana sy ny fahamarinana; ary ario ny andriamanitra izay notompoin' ny razanareo tany an-dafin' ny ony sy tany Egypta, ka manompoa an' i Jehovah."
15. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
15. Et si vous ne trouvez pas bon de servir l`Éternel, choisissez aujourd`hui qui vous voulez servir, ou les dieux que servaient vos pères au delà du fleuve, ou les dieux des Amoréens dans le pays desquels vous habitez. Moi et ma maison, nous servirons l`Éternel.
15. "Nefa raha tsy sitrakareo ny hanompo an' i Jehovah, dia fidionareo anio àry izay hotompoinareo, na ny andriamanitra izay notompoin' ny razanareo tany an-dafin' ny ony, na ny andriamanitry ny Amorita, izay mponina teto amin' ny tany onenanareo; fa raha izaho sy ny ankohonako kosa, dia hanompo an' i Jehovah izahay."
16. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
16. Le peuple répondit, et dit: Loin de nous la pensée d`abandonner l`Éternel, et de servir d`autres dieux!
16. Dia namaly ny vahoaka ka nanao hoe: Sanatria raha hahafoy an' i Jehovah izahay ka hanompo andriamani-kafa.
17. For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
17. "Car l`Éternel est notre Dieu; c`est lui qui nous a fait sortir du pays d`Égypte, de la maison de servitude, nous et nos pères; c`est lui qui a opéré sous nos yeux ces grands prodiges, et qui nous a gardés pendant toute la route que nous avons suivie et parmi tous les peuples au milieu desquels nous avons passé."
17. Fa Jehovah Andriamanitsika, Izy no nitondra antsika sy ny razantsika nivoaka avy tany amin' ny tany Egypta, tany amin' ny trano nahandevozana, ary izy no nanao ireny famantarana lehibe ireny teo imasontsika ka niaro antsika tany amin' ny lalana rehetra nalehantsika sy tany amin' ny firenena rehetra izay notetezintsika.
18. And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.
18. Il a chassé devant nous tous les peuples, et les Amoréens qui habitaient ce pays. Nous aussi, nous servirons l`Éternel, car il est notre Dieu.
18. "Ary Jehovah nandroaka ny firenena rehetra teo anoloantsika, dia ny Amorita izay nonina teto amin' ny tany; koa izahay koa dia mba hanompo an' i Jehovah, fa izy no Andriamanitsika."
19. And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
19. "Josué dit au peuple: Vous n`aurez pas la force de servir l`Éternel, car c`est un Dieu saint, c`est un Dieu jaloux; il ne pardonnera point vos transgressions et vos péchés."
19. "Ary hoy Josoa tamin' ny vahoaka: Tsy mahay manompo an' i Jehovah ianareo; fa Andriamanitra masina Izy, Andriamanitra saro-piaro Izy ka tsy hamela ny fahadisoanareo sy ny fahotanareo."
20. If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
20. Lorsque vous abandonnerez l`Éternel et que vous servirez des dieux étrangers, il reviendra vous faire du mal, et il vous consumera après vous avoir fait du bien.
20. Raha mahafoy an' i Jehovah ianareo ka manompo andriamani-kafa, dia hiverina Izy ka hampahory anareo sy hahafongana anareo, rehefa nasiany soa.
21. And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.
21. Le peuple dit à Josué: Non! car nous servirons l`Éternel.
21. Dia hoy ny vahoaka tamin' i Josoa: Tsia, fa Jehovah no hotompoinay.
22. And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
22. Josué dit au peuple: Vous êtes témoins contre vous-mêmes que c`est vous qui avez choisi l`Éternel pour le servir. Ils répondirent: Nous en sommes témoins.
22. Dia hoy Josoa tamin' ny vahoaka: Vavolombelona ho an' ny tenanareo ianareo, fa efa nifidy an' i Jehovah hotompoinareo. Ary hoy ny olona: vavolombelona izahay.
23. Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.
23. Otez donc les dieux étrangers qui sont au milieu de vous, et tournez votre coeur vers l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël.
23. Arionareo ankehitriny àry, hoy izy, ny andriamani-kafa izay eo aminareo, ka ampanatòny an' i Jehovah Andriamanitry ny Isiraely ny fonareo.
24. And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
24. Et le peuple dit à Josué: Nous servirons l`Éternel, notre Dieu, et nous obéirons à sa voix.
24. Dia hoy ny vahoaka tamin' i Josoa: Jehovah Andriamanitray no hotompoinay, ary ny feony no hankatoavinay.
25. So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
25. Josué fit en ce jour une alliance avec le peuple, et lui donna des lois et des ordonnances, à Sichem.
25. Ary dia nanao fanekena tamin' ny vahoaka Josoa tamin' izany andro izany ka nanome azy lalàna sy didy tany Sekema.
26. And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
26. Josué écrivit ces choses dans le livre de la loi de Dieu. Il prit une grande pierre, qu`il dressa là sous le chêne qui était dans le lieu consacré à l`Éternel.
26. Dia nosoratan' i Josoa tao amin' ny bokin' ny lalàn' Andriamanitra ireo teny ireo, ary naka vato lehibe izy ka nanangana azy teo ambanin' ny hazo oaka, izay teo anilan' ny fitoera-masin' i Jehovah.
27. And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
27. "Et Josué dit à tout le peuple: Voici, cette pierre servira de témoin contre nous, car elle a entendu toutes les paroles que l`Éternel nous a dites; elle servira de témoin contre vous, afin que vous ne soyez pas infidèles à votre Dieu."
27. "Dia hoy Josoa tamin' ny vahoaka rehetra: Indro, ity vato ity ho vavolombelona amintsika, fa efa nahare ny teny rehetra nolazain' i Jehovah tamintsika; dia ho vavolombelona aminareo io, fandrao handà an' Andriamanitrareo ianareo."
Buried in the Promised Land
28. So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
28. Puis Josué renvoya le peuple, chacun dans son héritage.
28. Dia nampodin' i Josoa ny vahoaka samy ho any amin' ny lovany avy.
29. And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
29. Après ces choses, Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur de l`Éternel, mourut, âgé de cent dix ans.
29. Ary izao no niseho, taorian' izany zavatra izany, dia maty Josoa, zanak' i Nona, mpanompon' i Jehovah rehefa folo amby zato taona.
30. And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.
30. On l`ensevelit dans le territoire qu`il avait eu en partage, à Thimnath Sérach, dans la montagne d`Éphraïm, au nord de la montagne de Gaasch.
30. Dia naleviny tao amin' ny fari-tanin' ny lovany izy, tao Timnata-sera, izay any amin' ny tendrombohitr' i Efraima, avaratry ny havoan' i Gasa.
31. And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.
31. Israël servit l`Éternel pendant toute la vie de Josué, et pendant toute la vie des anciens qui survécurent à Josué et qui connaissaient tout ce que l`Éternel avait fait en faveur d`Israël.
31. Ary nanompo an' i Jehovah ny Isiraely tamin' ny andro rehetra niainan' i Josoa sy tamin' ny andro rehetra niainan' ny loholona izay velona taorian' i Josoa ka nahalala ny asa rehetra izay nataon' i Jehovah ho an' ny Isiraely.
32. And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
32. Les os de Joseph, que les enfants d`Israël avaient rapportés d`Égypte, furent enterrés à Sichem, dans la portion du champ que Jacob avait achetée des fils de Hamor, père de Sichem, pour cent kesita, et qui appartint à l`héritage des fils de Joseph.
32. "Ary ny taolan' i Josefa, izay nentin' ny Zanak' Isiraely avy tany Egypta, dia naleviny tao Sekema, tao amin' ny sombin-tany, izay novidin' i Jakoba volafotsy zato tamin' ny zanak' i Hamora, rain' i Sekema; dia tonga lovan' ny taranak' i Josefa izany."
33. And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
33. Éléazar, fils d`Aaron, mourut, et on l`enterra à Guibeath Phinées, qui avait été donné à son fils Phinées, dans la montagne d`Éphraïm.
33. Dia maty Eleazara, zanak' i Arona, ka nalevina teo amin' ny havoan' i Finehasa zanany, izay nomena azy tany amin' ny tendrombohitr' i Efraima.
