Jonah's Anger at the LORD's Compassion

2. And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

2. Il implora l`Éternel, et il dit: Ah! Éternel, n`est-ce pas ce que je disais quand j`étais encore dans mon pays? C`est ce que je voulais prévenir en fuyant à Tarsis. Car je savais que tu es un Dieu compatissant et miséricordieux, lent à la colère et riche en bonté, et qui te repens du mal.

2. Dia nivavaka tamin' i Jehovah izy ka nanao hoe: Mifona aminao aho, Jehovah ô, tsy izao ihany va no efa nolazaiko fony aho mbola tany amin' ny taniko? Noho izany no nandosirako ho any Tarsisy, satria fantatro fa Ianao dia Andriamanitra miantra sy mamindrafo, mahari-po sady be famindrampo, ary manenina ny amin' ny loza.

3. Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

3. Maintenant, Éternel, prends-moi donc la vie, car la mort m`est préférable à la vie.

3. "Koa mifona aminao aho ankehitriny, Jehovah ô, esory ny aiko; fa tsara ho ahy kokoa ny ho faty noho ny ho velona."

4. Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?

4. L`Éternel répondit: Fais-tu bien de t`irriter?

4. Fa hoy Jehovah: Moa tsara va izao fahatezeranao izao?

5. So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.

5. Et Jonas sortit de la ville, et s`assit à l`orient de la ville, Là il se fit une cabane, et s`y tint à l`ombre, jusqu`à ce qu`il vît ce qui arriverait dans la ville.

5. "Dia nivoaka ny tanàna Jona ka nipetraka teo atsinanan-tanàna; ary nanao trano rantsankazo ho azy teo izy ka nipetraka teo ambanin' ny alokalony ambara-pahitany izay hiafaran' ny tanàna."

6. And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

6. L`Éternel Dieu fit croître un ricin, qui s`éleva au-dessus de Jonas, pour donner de l`ombre sur sa tête et pour lui ôter son irritation. Jonas éprouva une grande joie à cause de ce ricin.

6. Ary Jehovah Andriamanitra nanomana tanantanamanga, ka nampaniriny hanalokaloka an' i Jona izany ho alokaloky ny lohany, hanafaka ny alahelony, ka dia nahafaly an' i Jona indrindra ny tanantanamanga.

7. But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

7. Mais le lendemain, à l`aurore, Dieu fit venir un ver qui piqua le ricin, et le ricin sécha.

7. Kanjo nony ampitso maraina dia nanomana kankana Andriamanitra, ka namely ilay tanantanamanga iny, dia nalazo izany.

8. And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

8. Au lever du soleil, Dieu fit souffler un vent chaud d`orient, et le soleil frappa la tête de Jonas, au point qu`il tomba en défaillance. Il demanda la mort, et dit: La mort m`est préférable à la vie.

8. "Ary izao no niseho, nony niposaka ny masoandro, Andriamanitra dia nanomana rivotra mahamay avy any atsinanana; ary namely ny lohan' i Jona ny masoandro, dia ana izy, ka naniry ny ho faty, sady nanao hoe: Tsara ho ahy kokoa ny ho faty noho ny ho velona."

9. And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

9. Dieu dit à Jonas: Fais-tu bien de t`irriter à cause du ricin? Il répondit: Je fais bien de m`irriter jusqu`à la mort.

9. Fa hoy Andriamanitra tamin' i Jona: Moa tsara va izao firehitry ny fahatezeranao ny amin' ny tanantanamanga izao? Ary hoy izy: Tsara ny hahatezerako mandra-pahafatiko.

10. Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

10. Et l`Éternel dit: Tu as pitié du ricin qui ne t`a coûté aucune peine et que tu n`as pas fait croître, qui est né dans une nuit et qui a péri dans une nuit.

10. "Dia hoy Jehovah: Ianao malahelo ny tanantanamanga izay tsy nisasaranao na nampanirinao, dia ilay naniry indray alina monja ary maty indray alina koa;"

11. And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

11. Et moi, je n`aurais pas pitié de Ninive, la grande ville, dans laquelle se trouvent plus de cent vingt mille hommes qui ne savent pas distinguer leur droite de leur gauche, et des animaux en grand nombre!

11. Ka moa Izaho tsy mba hiantra an' i Ninive, ilay tanàna lehibe va, izay misy olona tsy omby roa alina sy iray hetsy, izay tsy mahafantatra ny havanany sy ny haviany, sady be biby fiompy koa?
