Prologue
1. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
1. "Il y avait dans le pays d`Uts un homme qui s`appelait Job. Et cet homme était intègre et droit; il craignait Dieu, et se détournait du mal."
1. "NIsy lehilahy tany amin' ny tany Oza, Joba no anarany; ary marina sy mahitsy izany lehilahy izany sady natahotra an' Andriamanitra ka nifady ny ratsy."
2. And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
2. Il lui naquit sept fils et trois filles.
2. Ary niteraka fito lahy sy vavy telo izy.
3. His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
3. Il possédait sept mille brebis, trois mille chameaux, cinq cents paires de boeufs, cinq cents ânesses, et un très grand nombre de serviteurs. Et cet homme était le plus considérable de tous les fils de l`Orient.
3. "Ny fananany koa dia ondry fito arivo sy rameva telo arivo sy ombin-jioga dimanjato sy borikivavy dimanjato ary mpanompo marobe; ka dia nanankarena indrindra noho ny olona rehetra tany atsinanana izany lehilahy izany."
4. And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
4. Ses fils allaient les uns chez les autres et donnaient tour à tour un festin, et ils invitaient leurs trois soeurs à manger et à boire avec eux.
4. Ary izao no zava-nisy, ny zanany lahy dia nandeha nanao fanasana tany an-tranony avy isaky ny androny avy, ka naniraka niantso ny anabaviny telo mirahavavy hiara-mihinana sy misotro aminy.
5. And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
5. "Et quand les jours de festin étaient passés, Job appelait et sanctifiait ses fils, puis il se levait de bon matin et offrait pour chacun d`eux un holocauste; car Job disait: Peut-être mes fils ont-ils péché et ont-ils offensé Dieu dans leur coeur. C`est ainsi que Job avait coutume d`agir."
5. "Ary izao no zava-nisy isaky ny tapitra nitsingerina ireo andro fanasany ireo, dia naniraka Joba ka nanamasina ireny, ary nifoha maraina koa izy ka nanatitra fanatitra dorana araka ny isan' izy rehetra; fa hoy Joba: Mety ho nanota ny zanako ka nanozona an' Andriamanitra tao am-pony. Job's First Test
6. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
6. Or, les fils de Dieu vinrent un jour se présenter devant l`Éternel, et Satan vint aussi au milieu d`eux.
6. Ary tamin' ny indray andro nony avy ireo zanak' Andriamanitra hiseho teo anatrehan' i Jehovah, dia mba tonga teo koa Satana tafaharo taminy.
7. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
7. L`Éternel dit à Satan: D`où viens-tu? Et Satan répondit à l`Éternel: De parcourir la terre et de m`y promener.
7. Dia hoy Jehovah tamin' i Satana: Avy taiza ianao? Dia namaly an' i Jehovah i Satana ka nanao hoe: Avy nizahazaha teny amin' ny tany aho ka nivezivezy teny.
8. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
8. "L`Éternel dit à Satan: As-tu remarqué mon serviteur Job? Il n`y a personne comme lui sur la terre; c`est un homme intègre et droit, craignant Dieu, et se détournant du mal."
8. Dia hoy Jehovah tamin' i Satana: Efa nandinika an' i Joba mpanompoko va ianao? Fa tsy misy tahaka azy eny ambonin' ny tany, fa olona marina sy mahitsy izy sady matahotra an' Andriamanitra ka mifady ny ratsy.
9. Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
9. Et Satan répondit à l`Éternel: Est-ce d`une manière désintéressée que Job craint Dieu?
9. Ary Satana dia namaly an' i Jehovah ka nanao hoe: Moa matahotra an' Andriamanitra amin' ny tsy antony va Joba?
10. Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
10. Ne l`as-tu pas protégé, lui, sa maison, et tout ce qui est à lui? Tu as béni l`oeuvre de ses mains, et ses troupeaux couvrent le pays.
10. Moa tsy Ianao va no nanao fefy manodidina azy sy manodidina ny ankohonany ary manodidina izay ananany rehetra? Notahianao ny asan' ny tanany ka manenika ny tany ny fananany.
11. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
11. Mais étends ta main, touche à tout ce qui lui appartient, et je suis sûr qu`il te maudit en face.
11. Fa ahinjiro ange ankehitriny ny tananao, ka tendreo izay ananany rehetra, raha tsy hanozona anao eo imasonao izy.
12. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
12. "L`Éternel dit à Satan: Voici, tout ce qui lui appartient, je te le livre; seulement, ne porte pas la main sur lui. Et Satan se retira de devant la face de l`Éternel."
12. " Dia hoy Jehovah tamin' i Satana: Indro eo ambany fahefanao izay rehetra ananany; fa ny tenany ihany no aza aninjiranao ny tananao; dia nivoaka Satana niala teo anatrehan' i Jehovah."
13. And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
13. Un jour que les fils et les filles de Job mangeaient et buvaient du vin dans la maison de leur frère aîné,
13. "Ary tamin' ny indray andro dia nihinana sy nisotro divay tao an-tranon' ny zokiny lahimatoa ny zanany lahy sy ny zanany vavy;"
14. And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
14. "il arriva auprès de Job un messager qui dit: Les boeufs labouraient et les ânesses paissaient à côté d`eux;"
14. Ary nisy iraka tonga tany amin' i Joba ka nanao hoe: Ny omby niasa, ary ny borikivavy nandrasana teo anilany,
15. And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
15. des Sabéens se sont jetés dessus, les ont enlevés, et ont passé les serviteurs au fil de l`épée. Et je me suis échappé moi seul, pour t`en apporter la nouvelle.
15. Dia namely azy ny Sabeana ka namabo azy, eny, nasiany tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra ny mpanompo, ary izaho dia izaho irery ihany no afa-nandositra hilaza aminao.
16. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
16. Il parlait encore, lorsqu`un autre vint et dit: Le feu de Dieu est tombé du ciel, a embrasé les brebis et les serviteurs, et les a consumés. Et je me suis échappé moi seul, pour t`en apporter la nouvelle.
16. "Raha mbola niteny izy, dia nisy anankiray koa tonga ka nanao hoe: Latsaka avy tany an-danitra ny afon' Andriamanitra dia nandoro ny ondry sy ny mpanompo ka nandevona azy; ary izaho dia izaho irery ihany no afa-nandositra hilaza aminao."
17. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
17. Il parlait encore, lorsqu`un autre vint et dit: Des Chaldéens, formés en trois bandes, se sont jetés sur les chameaux, les ont enlevés, et ont passé les serviteurs au fil de l`épée. Et je me suis échappé moi seul, pour t`en apporter la nouvelle.
17. Raha mbola niteny izy, dia nisy anankiray koa tonga ka nanao hoe: Ny Kaldeana nanao telo toko, dia niroatany ny rameva ka nobaboiny, eny, nasiany tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra ny mpanompo, ary izaho dia izaho irery ihany no afa-nandositra hilaza aminao.
18. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
18. "Il parlait encore, lorsqu`un autre vint et dit: Tes fils et tes filles mangeaient et buvaient du vin dans la maison de leur frère aîné;"
18. "Raha mbola niteny izy, dia nisy anankiray koa tonga ka nanao hoe: Ny zanakao lahy sy ny zanakao vavy dia nihinana sy nisotro divay tao an-tranon' ny zokiny lahimatoa;"
19. And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
19. "et voici, un grand vent est venu de l`autre côté du désert, et a frappé contre les quatre coins de la maison; elle s`est écroulée sur les jeunes gens, et ils sont morts. Et je me suis échappé moi seul, pour t`en apporter la nouvelle."
19. Ary indro, nisy rivotra mahery avy tany an' efitra ka namely ny zoron-trano efatra, dia nianjera tamin' ny zatovo ny trano, ka maty ireo, ary izaho dia izaho irery ihany no afa-nandositra hilaza aminao.
20. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
20. "Alors Job se leva, déchira son manteau, et se rasa la tête; puis, se jetant par terre, il se prosterna,"
20. Dia nitsangana Joba ka nandrovitra ny kapaotiny, ary nanaratra ny lohany, dia niapoka tamin' ny tany ka niankohoka,
21. And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
21. "et dit: Je suis sorti nu du sein de ma mère, et nu je retournerai dans le sein de la terre. L`Éternel a donné, et l`Éternel a ôté; que le nom de l`Éternel soit béni!"
21. Sady nanao hoe: Nitanjaka no nivoahako avy tany an-kibon' ny reniko, ary mitanjaka no hiverenako any. Jehovah no nanome, ary Jehovah no nanaisotra, isaorana anie ny anaran' i Jehovah.
22. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
22. En tout cela, Job ne pécha point et n`attribua rien d`injuste à Dieu.
