Jacob Flees From Laban
1. And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this glory.
1. Jacob entendit les propos des fils de Laban, qui disaient: Jacob a pris tout ce qui était à notre père, et c`est avec le bien de notre père qu`il s`est acquis toute cette richesse.

2. And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.
2. "Jacob remarqua aussi le visage de Laban; et voici, il n`était plus envers lui comme auparavant."

3. And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
3. Alors l`Éternel dit à Jacob: Retourne au pays de tes pères et dans ton lieu de naissance, et je serai avec toi.

4. And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

5. And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.

6. And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.
6. Vous savez vous-mêmes que j`ai servi votre père de tout mon pouvoir.
6. Ary fantatrareo fa tamin' ny heriko rehetra no nanompoako ny rainareo.
7. And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.
7. "Et votre père s`est joué de moi, et a changé dix fois mon salaire; mais Dieu ne lui a pas permis de me faire du mal."
7. "Fa ny rainareo efa namitaka ahy ka efa nanova ny karamako impolo; nefa tsy navelan' Andriamanitra handratra ahy izy."
8. If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked.
8. Quand il disait: Les tachetés seront ton salaire, toutes les brebis faisaient des petits tachetés. Et quand il disait: Les rayés seront ton salaire, toutes les brebis faisaient des petits rayés.
8. "Raha nilaza izy hoe: Ny sada no ho karamanao; dia niteraka sada ny biby fiompy rehetra, ary raha nilaza izy hoe: Ny sadika no karamanao, dia niteraka sadika ny biby fiompy rehetra."
9. Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.
9. Dieu a pris à votre père son troupeau, et me l`a donné.
9. Toy izany no nanesoran' Andriamanitra ny biby fiompin' ny rainareo ka nanomezany izany ho ahy.
10. And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.
10. Au temps où les brebis entraient en chaleur, je levai les yeux, et je vis en songe que les boucs qui couvraient les brebis étaient rayés, tachetés et marquetés.

11. And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.
11. Et l`ange de Dieu me dit en songe: Jacob! Je répondis: Me voici!

12. And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.
12. "Il dit: Lève les yeux, et regarde: tous les boucs qui couvrent les brebis sont rayés, tachetés et marquetés; car j`ai vu tout ce que te fait Laban."
12. "Ary hoy Izy: Atopazy ny masonao ankehitriny ka jereo, fa sadika sy sada ary mara ny ondrilahy rehetra izay mikambana amin' ny ondrivavy; satria efa hitako izay rehetra ataon' i Labana aminao."
13. I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
13. Je suis le Dieu de Béthel, où tu as oint un monument, où tu m`as fait un voeu. Maintenant, lève-toi, sors de ce pays, et retourne au pays de ta naissance.

14. And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?
14. Rachel et Léa répondirent, et lui dirent: Avons-nous encore une part et un héritage dans la maison de notre père?

15. Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.
15. Ne sommes-nous pas regardées par lui comme des étrangères, puisqu`il nous a vendues, et qu`il a mangé notre argent?

16. For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
16. Toute la richesse que Dieu a ôtée à notre père appartient à nous et à nos enfants. Fais maintenant tout ce que Dieu t`a dit.

17. Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;
17. Jacob se leva, et il fit monter ses enfants et ses femmes sur les chameaux.

18. And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.
18. "Il emmena tout son troupeau et tous les biens qu`il possédait, le troupeau qui lui appartenait, qu`il avait acquis à Paddan Aram; et il s`en alla vers Isaac, son père, au pays de Canaan."

19. And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.
19. "Tandis que Laban était allé tondre ses brebis, Rachel déroba les théraphim de son père;"

20. And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.

21. So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

Laban Pursues Jacob
22. And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.
22. Le troisième jour, on annonça à Laban que Jacob s`était enfui.

23. And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.
23. Il prit avec lui ses frères, le poursuivit sept journées de marche, et l`atteignit à la montagne de Galaad.

24. And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
24. Mais Dieu apparut la nuit en songe à Laban, l`Araméen, et lui dit: Garde-toi de parler à Jacob ni en bien ni en mal!
24. Ary nankeo amin' i Labana Syriana tamin' ny nofy nony alina Andriamanitra ka nanao taminy hoe: Tandremo mba tsy hasianao teny akory Jakoba na soa na ratsy.
25. Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.
25. "Laban atteignit donc Jacob. Jacob avait dressé sa tente sur la montagne; Laban dressa aussi la sienne, avec ses frères, sur la montagne de Galaad."
25. "Ary Labana dia nahatratra an' i Jakoba. Tamin' izay Jakoba efa nanangana ny lainy teo an-tendrombohitra; ary Labana sy ireo rahalahiny koa nanangan-day teo an-tendrombohitr' i Gileada."
26. And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?
26. Alors Laban dit à Jacob: Qu`as-tu fait? Pourquoi m`as-tu trompé, et emmènes-tu mes filles comme des captives par l`épée?
26. Ary hoy Labana tamin' i Jakoba: Inona no nataonao, no dia nangala-dia tamiko ianao ka nindaosinao toy ny babo azo tamin' ny sabatra ny zanako vavy?
27. Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?
27. Pourquoi as-tu pris la fuite en cachette, m`as-tu trompé, et ne m`as-tu point averti? Je t`aurais laissé partir au milieu des réjouissances et des chants, au son du tambourin et de la harpe.
27. Nahoana no nandositra mangingina ianao ka nangala-dia tamiko, ary tsy nanambara tamiko ianao, mba ho nandefasako anao tamin' ny fifaliana sy ny hira, tamin' ny ampongatapaka sy ny harpa?
28. And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.
28. Tu ne m`as pas permis d`embrasser mes fils et mes filles! C`est en insensé que tu as agi.
28. Sady tsy mba navelanao hanoroka ny zanako lahy sy ny zanako vavy aho? Efa nanao adaladala ianao izao tamin' ny nanaovanao izany.
29. It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
29. "Ma main est assez forte pour vous faire du mal; mais le Dieu de votre père m`a dit hier: Garde-toi de parler à Jacob ni en bien ni en mal!"
29. "Manan-kery hanisy ratsy anao ny tanako; fa Andriamanitry ny rainao niteny tamiko alina nanao hoe: Tandremo, mba tsy hasianao teny akory Jakoba na soa na ratsy."
30. And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father's house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?
30. Maintenant que tu es parti, parce que tu languissais après la maison de ton père, pourquoi as-tu dérobé mes dieux?

31. And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.
31. Jacob répondit, et dit à Laban: J`avais de la crainte à la pensée que tu m`enlèverais peut-être tes filles.
31. Dia namaly Jakoba ka nanao tamin' i Labana hoe: Satria natahotra aho, fa hoy aho: Angamba halainao an-keriny amiko ny zanakao vavy.
32. With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.
32. Mais périsse celui auprès duquel tu trouveras tes dieux! En présence de nos frères, examine ce qui t`appartient chez moi, et prends-le. Jacob ne savait pas que Rachel les eût dérobés.

33. And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.
33. Laban entra dans la tente de Jacob, dans la tente de Léa, dans la tente des deux servantes, et il ne trouva rien. Il sortit de la tente de Léa, et entra dans la tente de Rachel.

34. Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.
34. Rachel avait pris les théraphim, les avait mis sous le bât du chameau, et s`était assise dessus. Laban fouilla toute la tente, et ne trouva rien.
34. Fa efa nalain-dRahely ny sarin-javatra ka nataony tao anatin' ny laselin' ny rameva, dia nipetraka teo amboniny izy.Ary Labana dia nikaroka eran' ny lay rehetra, fa tsy nahita.
35. And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.
35. Elle dit à son père: Que mon seigneur ne se fâche point, si je ne puis me lever devant toi, car j`ai ce qui est ordinaire aux femmes. Il chercha, et ne trouva point les théraphim.
35. "Ary hoy Rahely tamin' ny rainy: Aoka tsy hahatezitra ny tompoko raha tsy afa-mitsangana eto anatrehanao aho; satria azon' ny fombam-behivavy aho. Dia nisava Labana fa tsy nahita ny sarin-javatra."
36. And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?
36. Jacob s`irrita, et querella Laban. Il reprit la parole, et lui dit: Quel est mon crime, quel est mon péché, que tu me poursuives avec tant d`ardeur?
36. "Dia tezitra Jakoba ka nifanditra tamin' i Labana; ary namaly Jakoba ka nanao tamin' i Labana hoe: Inona no heloko? inona no fahotako, no dia niolomay nanenjika ahy ianao?"
37. Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.
37. Quand tu as fouillé tous mes effets, qu`as-tu trouvé des effets de ta maison? Produis-le ici devant mes frères et tes frères, et qu`ils prononcent entre nous deux.
37. Fa efa nosavainao avokoa ny entako rehetra, koa inona no hitanao avy amin' ny entanao rehetra tany an-tranonao? Apetraho eto anatrehan' ireo rahalahiko sy rahalahinao hitsarany antsika roa lahy.
38. This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.
38. "Voilà vingt ans que j`ai passés chez toi; tes brebis et tes chèvres n`ont point avorté, et je n`ai point mangé les béliers de ton troupeau."
38. "Izao roapolo taona izao no nitoerako tany aminao; ny ondrivavinao sy ny osivavinao tsy mba namotsotra, ary tsy mba nihinana ny ondrilahy avy tamin' ny ondrinao aho."
39. That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.
39. "Je ne t`ai point rapporté de bêtes déchirées, j`en ai payé le dommage; tu me redemandais ce qu`on me volait de jour et ce qu`on me volait de nuit."
39. "Izay voaviraviram-biby tsy mba nentiko tany aminao; fa izaho no niaritra ny fatiantoka; teo an-tanako no nitakianao izany, na ny nangalarina andro, na ny nangalarina alina."
40. Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.
40. La chaleur me dévorait pendant le jour, et le froid pendant la nuit, et le sommeil fuyait de mes yeux.
40. "Toy izany ny amiko; nony antoandro matin' ny hain' andro aho, ary nony alina dia matin' ny fanala; ary nandositra ny masoko ny torimaso."
41. Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.
41. "Voilà vingt ans que j`ai passés dans ta maison; je t`ai servi quatorze ans pour tes deux filles, et six ans pour ton troupeau, et tu as changé dix fois mon salaire."
41. "Izao roapolo taona izao no nitoerako tao an-tranonao; ka efatra ambin' ny folo taona no nanompoako anao hahazoako ny zanakao roa vavy, ary enin-taona kosa hahazoako ny biby fiompinao; ary efa nanova ny karamako impolo ianao."
42. Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.
42. Si je n`eusse pas eu pour moi le Dieu de mon père, le Dieu d`Abraham, celui que craint Isaac, tu m`aurais maintenant renvoyé à vide. Dieu a vu ma souffrance et le travail de mes mains, et hier il a prononcé son jugement.
42. Raha tsy Andriamanitry ny raiko, dia Andriamanitr' i Abrahama, Ilay natahoran' Isaka, no nomba ahy, dia ho nampandehaninao maina tokoa aho ankehitriny. Andriamanitra efa nitsinjo ny fahoriako sy ny fisasaran' ny tanako ka nananatra anao halina.
43. And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?
43. Laban répondit, et dit à Jacob: Ces filles sont mes filles, ces enfants sont mes enfants, ce troupeau est mon troupeau, et tout ce que tu vois est à moi. Et que puis-je faire aujourd`hui pour mes filles, ou pour leurs enfants qu`elles ont mis au monde?
43. "Dia namaly Labana ka nanao tamin' i Jakoba hoe: Ireo zazavavy ireo dia zanako vavy ary ireo zaza ireo dia zanako; ary ireo biby fiompy ireo dia biby fiompiko ary izao rehetra hitanao izao dia ahy; ary ahoana no hataoko anio amin' ireto zanako vavy, na amin' ny zanany naterany?"
44. Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.
44. Viens, faisons alliance, moi et toi, et que cela serve de témoignage entre moi et toi!

45. And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.
45. Jacob prit une pierre, et il la dressa pour monument.

46. And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.
46. "Jacob dit à ses frères: Ramassez des pierres. Ils prirent des pierres, et firent un monceau; et ils mangèrent là sur le monceau."
46. "Ary hoy Jakoba tamin' ny rahalahiny: Manangòna vato; dia naka vato ireo ka nataony antontany; ary dia nihinana teo amin' ny antontam-bato izy."
47. And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.
47. Laban l`appela Jegar Sahadutha, et Jacob l`appela Galed.
47. "Ary nataon' i Labana hoe: Jegara-sahadota izany; fa Jakoba kosa nanao azy hoe: Galeda."
48. And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;
48. Laban dit: Que ce monceau serve aujourd`hui de témoignage entre moi et toi! C`est pourquoi on lui a donné le nom de Galed.
48. "Ary hoy Labana: Ity antontam-bato ity no vavolombelona amiko sy aminao anio. Izany no nanaovany ny anarany hoe: Galeda ;"
49. And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.
49. On l`appelle aussi Mitspa, parce que Laban dit: Que l`Éternel veille sur toi et sur moi, quand nous nous serons l`un et l`autre perdus de vue.
49. "Sy Mizpa; fa hoy izy; Jehovah hitazana ahy sy ianao, rehefa tsy mifankahita isika."
50. If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.
50. Si tu maltraites mes filles, et si tu prends encore d`autres femmes, ce n`est pas un homme qui sera avec nous, prends-y garde, c`est Dieu qui sera témoin entre moi et toi.
50. "Raha tàhiny hampahory ny zanako vavy ianao, na haka vady hafa ankoatra ny zanako vavy ianao, tsy misy olona eto amintsika; indro, Andriamanitra no vavolombelona amiko sy aminao."
51. And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee:
51. Laban dit à Jacob: Voici ce monceau, et voici ce monument que j`ai élevé entre moi et toi.
51. "Ary hoy Labana tamin' i Jakoba: Indro ity antontam-bato ity, ary indro ity tsangambato ity izay napetrako eto anelanelantsika;"
52. This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.
52. Que ce monceau soit témoin et que ce monument soit témoin que je n`irai point vers toi au delà de ce monceau, et que tu ne viendras point vers moi au delà de ce monceau et de ce monument, pour agir méchamment.
52. Dia aoka ho vavolombelona ity antontam-bato ity, ary aoka ho vavolombelona ity tsangambato ity, mba tsy hihoarako ity antontam-bato ity hankany aminao, ary mba tsy hihoaranao ity antontam-bato ity sy ity tsangambato ity hankaty amiko kosa hanisy ratsy.
53. The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.
53. Que le Dieu d`Abraham et de Nachor, que le Dieu de leur père soit juge entre nous. Jacob jura par celui que craignait Isaac.
53. Ny Andriamanitr' i Abrahama sy ny Andriamanitr' i Nahora, dia ny Andriamanitry ny razan' ireo anie hitsara antsika. Fa ilay natahoran' Isaka rainy no nianianan' i Jakoba.
54. Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.
