A Lament for Israel's Princes
1. Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,
1. Et toi, prononce une complainte sur les princes d`Israël,

2. And say, What is thy mother? A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions.
2. "et dis: Ta mère, qu`était-ce? Une lionne. Elle était couchée parmi les lions; C`est au milieu des lionceaux Qu`elle a élevé ses petits."
2. Ka ataovy hoe: Inona moa reninareo? Liom-bavy izy: namitsaka tao amin' ny liona izy, ary nitaiza ny zanany tao amin' ny liona tanora.
3. And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men.
3. "Elle éleva l`un de ses petits, Qui devint un jeune lion, Et qui apprit à déchirer sa proie; Il dévora des hommes."
3. Ary nahalehibe ny zanany anankiray izy, dia tonga liona tanora io ka nianatra hamiravira haza sady nihinana olona.
4. The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt.
4. "Les nations entendirent parler de lui, Et il fut pris dans leur fosse; Elles mirent une boucle à ses narines et l`emmenèrent Dans le pays d`Égypte."

5. Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.
5. Quand la lionne vit qu`elle attendait en vain, Qu`elle était trompée dans son espérance, Elle prit un autre de ses petits, Et en fit un jeune lion.

6. And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men.
6. "Il marcha parmi les lions, Il devint un jeune lion, Et il apprit à déchirer sa proie; Il dévora des hommes."

7. And he knew their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, by the noise of his roaring.
7. "Il força leurs palais, Et détruisit leurs villes; Le pays, tout ce qui s`y trouvait, fut ravagé, Au bruit de ses rugissements."

8. Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.
8. "Contre lui se rangèrent les nations D`alentour, des provinces; Elles tendirent sur lui leur rets, Et il fut pris dans leur fosse."
8. "Ary ny firenena manodidina izay avy amin' ny fanjakana samy hafa, dia namboatra sy namelatra ny haratony taminy; ka dia voafandrika tamin' ny lavany izy."
9. And they put him in ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.
9. "Elles mirent une boucle à ses narines, le placèrent dans une cage, Et l`emmenèrent auprès du roi de Babylone; Puis elles le conduisirent dans une forteresse, Afin qu`on n`entende plus sa voix sur les montagnes d`Israël."

10. Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.
10. Ta mère était, comme toi, semblable à une vigne, Plantée près des eaux. Elle était féconde et chargée de branches, A cause de l`abondance des eaux.
10. Ny reninao dia tahaka ny voaloboka, voavoly teo amoron-drano fony tamin' ny ranao ianao, vokatra sady nanaroka izy azon' ny rano be.
11. And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.
11. "Elle avait de vigoureux rameaux pour des sceptres de souverains; Par son élévation elle dominait les branches touffues; Elle attirait les regards par sa hauteur, Et par la multitude de ses rameaux."
11. Ary nanana tsorakazo mafy azo natao tehim-panjakana ho an' izay manapaka izy, ary ny habeny dia nasandratra teo amin' ny rantsana matevina, ary niseho tamin' ny haavony izy noho ny hamaroan' ny rantsany.
12. But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them.
12. "Mais elle a été arrachée avec fureur et jetée par terre; Le vent d`orient a desséché son fruit; Ses rameaux vigoureux ont été rompus et desséchés; Le feu les a dévorés."
12. "Nefa nongotana tamin' ny fahavinirana izy ka nazera ho amin' ny tany, ary ny rivotra avy any atsinanana no nahamaina ny voany; ny rantsany mafy dia tapaka ka maina; levon' ny afo ireny."
13. And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.
13. Et maintenant elle est plantée dans le désert, Dans une terre sèche et aride.
13. Ary ankehitriny voavoly any an' efitra izy, dia ao amin' ny tany maina karankaina.
14. And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.
14. "Le feu est sorti de ses branches, Et a dévoré son fruit; Elle n`a plus de rameau vigoureux Pour un sceptre de souverain. C`est là une complainte, et cela servira de complainte."
