The Birth of Moses
1. And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
1. Un homme de la maison de Lévi avait pris pour femme une fille de Lévi.
1. Ary nisy lehilahy anankiray avy amin' ny mpianakavin' i Levy lasa naka vady tamin' ny zanakavavin' i Levy.
2. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
2. Cette femme devint enceinte et enfanta un fils. Elle vit qu`il était beau, et elle le cacha pendant trois mois.
2. "Dia nanana anaka ravehivavy ka niteraka zazalahy; ary rehefa hitany fa zaza tsara izy, dia nafeniny telo volana."
3. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
3. "Ne pouvant plus le cacher, elle prit une caisse de jonc, qu`elle enduisit de bitume et de poix; elle y mit l`enfant, et le déposa parmi les roseaux, sur le bord du fleuve."
3. "Ary rehefa tsy azony nafenina intsony izy dia nangalany fiara zozoro, ka nopetahany asfalta sy dity ny fiara, dia napetrany tao ny zaza; ary napetrany tao anaty zozoro teo amoron' ny renirano ny fiara."
4. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
4. La soeur de l`enfant se tint à quelque distance, pour savoir ce qui lui arriverait.
4. Ary ny anabaviny nijanona teny lavidavitra eny, mba hahita izay hatao aminy.
5. And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.
5. La fille de Pharaon descendit au fleuve pour se baigner, et ses compagnes se promenèrent le long du fleuve. Elle aperçut la caisse au milieu des roseaux, et elle envoya sa servante pour la prendre.
5. "Ary nidina ny zanakavavin' i Farao mba handro tao amin' ny renirano; ary nitsangatsangana teny amoron' ny renirano ny mpanompovaviny; ary raha nahita ny fiara tao anaty zozoro ny zanakavavin' i Farao, dia naniraka ny mpanompovaviny iray izy ka nampaka azy."
6. And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.
6. Elle l`ouvrit, et vit l`enfant: c`était un petit garçon qui pleurait. Elle en eut pitié, et elle dit: C`est un enfant des Hébreux!
6. "Ary nony nosokafany, dia hitany ny zaza; ary, indro fa nitomany ny zazakely. Dia namindra fo taminy izy, ka nanao hoe: Isan' ny iray amin' ny zanaky ny Hebreo ity."
7. Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?
7. Alors la soeur de l`enfant dit à la fille de Pharaon: Veux-tu que j`aille te chercher une nourrice parmi les femmes des Hébreux, pour allaiter cet enfant?
7. Dia hoy kosa ny anabaviny tamin' ny zanakavavin' i Farao: Handeha haka mpitaiza amin' ny vehivavy Hebreo va aho hankaty aminao mba hitaiza ny zaza ho anao?
8. And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.
8. Va, lui répondit la fille de Pharaon. Et la jeune fille alla chercher la mère de l`enfant.
8. Ary hoy ny zanakavavin' i Farao taminy: Andeha àry. Dia lasa razazavavy ka naka ny renin' ny zaza.
9. And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.
9. "La fille de Pharaon lui dit: Emporte cet enfant, et allaite-le-moi; je te donnerai ton salaire. La femme prit l`enfant, et l`allaita."
9. Ary hoy ny zanakavavin' i Farao taminy: Ento ity zaza ity, ka tezao ho ahy, fa izaho handoa ny karamanao. Dia nentin-dravehivavy ny zaza ka notezainy.
10. And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
10. Quand il eut grandi, elle l`amena à la fille de Pharaon, et il fut pour elle comme un fils. Elle lui donna le nom de Moïse, car, dit-elle, je l`ai retiré des eaux.
10. "Ary nihalehibe ny zaza, dia nentiny tao amin' ny zanakavavin' i Farao izy, ka dia tonga zanany. Ary ny anarany nataony hoe Mosesy; fa hoy izy: Satria tamin' ny rano no nangalako azy."
Moses Flees to Midian
11. And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
11. En ce temps-là, Moïse, devenu grand, se rendit vers ses frères, et fut témoin de leurs pénibles travaux. Il vit un Égyptien qui frappait un Hébreu d`entre ses frères.
11. Ary izao no niseho tamin' izany andro izany, rehefa lehibe Mosesy, dia nivoaka nankany amin' ny rahalahiny izy ka nijery ny fanompoany mafy, ary nahita lehilahy Egyptiana nanavokavoka ny anankiray tamin' ny Hebreo rahalahiny.
12. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
12. Il regarda de côté et d`autre, et, voyant qu`il n`y avait personne, il tua l`Égyptien, et le cacha dans le sable.
12. Dia niherikerika izy, ka nony hitany fa tsy nisy olona, dia novonoiny ilay Egyptiana, ary nafeniny tao amin' ny fasika ny faty.
13. And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
13. "Il sortit le jour suivant; et voici, deux Hébreux se querellaient. Il dit à celui qui avait tort: Pourquoi frappes-tu ton prochain?"
13. "Ary nony ampitson' iny, dia nivoaka indray izy, ary, indreo, nisy Hebreo roa lahy niady; dia hoy izy tamin' ilay diso: Nahoana no mamono ny namanao ianao?"
14. And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
14. Et cet homme répondit: Qui t`a établi chef et juge sur nous? Penses-tu me tuer, comme tu as tué l`Égyptien? Moïse eut peur, et dit: Certainement la chose est connue.
14. Fa hoy izy: Iza no nanendry anao ho mpanapaka sy mpitsara anay? Moa mikasa hamono ahy koa va ianao, tahaka ny namonoanao ilay Egyptiana? Dia raiki-tahotra Mosesy, ka nanao hoe: Tena fantatr' olona izany zavatra izany.
15. Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.
15. Pharaon apprit ce qui s`était passé, et il cherchait à faire mourir Moïse. Mais Moïse s`enfuit de devant Pharaon, et il se retira dans le pays de Madian, où il s`arrêta près d`un puits.
15. "Ary rehefa ren' i Farao izany zavatra izany, dia nitady hamono an' i Mosesy izy. Fa nandositra ny tavan' i Farao i Mosesy ka nonina tany amin' ny tany Midiana; ary nipetraka teo anilan' ny lavaka fantsakana izy."
16. Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.
16. Le sacrificateur de Madian avait sept filles. Elle vinrent puiser de l`eau, et elles remplirent les auges pour abreuver le troupeau de leur père.
16. "Ary ny mpisorona tao Midiana nanana zanaka fito mirahavavy; ary avy izy ireo, dia nanovo rano ka nameno ny tavin-drano hampisotroany ny biby fiompin-drainy."
17. And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
17. Les bergers arrivèrent, et les chassèrent. Alors Moïse se leva, prit leur défense, et fit boire leur troupeau.
17. Ary avy kosa ny lehilahy mpiandry ondry ka nandroaka azy ireo, fa nitsangana Mosesy ka nanampy azy, dia nampisotro rano ny biby fiompiny.
18. And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
18. Quand elles furent de retour auprès de Réuel, leur père, il dit: Pourquoi revenez-vous si tôt aujourd`hui?
18. Ary rehefa tonga teo amin-dRegoela rainy ireo, dia hoy izy: Nahoana no dia nalaky tonga toy izany ianareo androany?
19. And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
19. Elles répondirent: Un Égyptien nous a délivrées de la main des bergers, et même il nous a puisé de l`eau, et a fait boire le troupeau.
19. Ary hoy izy ireo: Nisy lehilahy Egyptiana anankiray nanafaka anay tamin' ny tanan' ny mpiandry ondry sady nanovo rano ho anay, dia nampisotro rano ny biby fiompy.
20. And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
20. Et il dit à ses filles: Où est-il? Pourquoi avez-vous laissé cet homme? Appelez-le, pour qu`il prenne quelque nourriture.
20. Ary hoy izy tamin' ny zanany vavy: Ka aiza izy? Nahoana no nilaozanareo izany lehilahy izany? Alao izy mba hihinan-kanina.
21. And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
21. Moïse se décida à demeurer chez cet homme, qui lui donna pour femme Séphora, sa fille.
21. Ary sitrak' i Mosesy ny hitoetra tao amin-dralehilahy. Ary Zipora zanany vavy dia nomeny ho vadin' i Mosesy.
22. And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.
22. Elle enfanta un fils, qu`il appela du nom de Guerschom, car, dit-il, j`habite un pays étranger.
22. "Dia niteraka zazalahy izy, ary ny anarany nataon-drainy hoe Gersoma; fa hoy izy: Efa vahiny aty amin' ny firenen-kafa aho."
23. And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
23. Longtemps après, le roi d`Égypte mourut, et les enfants d`Israël gémissaient encore sous la servitude, et poussaient des cris. Ces cris, que leur arrachait la servitude, montèrent jusqu`à Dieu.
23. "Ary izao no niseho tao anatin' izany fotoana izany, maty ny mpanjakan' i Egypta; ary ny Zanak' Isiraely nisento noho ny fanandevozana ka nitaraina; ary niakatra tany amin' Andriamanitra ny fitarainany noho ny fanandevozana."
24. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
24. Dieu entendit leurs gémissements, et se souvint de son alliance avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.
24. Ary Andriamanitra nandre ny fitarainany, dia nahatsiaro ny fanekeny tamin' i Abrahama sy Isaka ary Jakoba.
25. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
25. Dieu regarda les enfants d`Israël, et il en eut compassion.
25. Ary Andriamanitra dia nijery ny Zanak' Isiraely ka nihevitra azy.
