David Spares Saul's Life
1. And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.
1. (24:2) Lorsque Saül fut revenu de la poursuite des Philistins, on vint lui dire: Voici, David est dans le désert d`En Guédi.

2. Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
2. (24:3) Saül prit trois mille hommes d`élite sur tout Israël, et il alla chercher David et ses gens jusque sur les rochers des boucs sauvages.

3. And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.
3. "(24:4) Il arriva à des parcs de brebis, qui étaient près du chemin; et là se trouvait une caverne, où il entra pour se couvrir les pieds. David et ses gens étaient au fond de la caverne."
3. "Ary tonga teo amin' ny valan' ondry tamoron-dalana izay nisy zohy izy, ka niditra tao i Saoly mba hiavela; nefa Davida sy ny olony efa nipetraka tao anatin' ny zohy."
4. And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.
4. "(24:5) Les gens de David lui dirent: Voici le jour où l`Éternel te dit: Je livre ton ennemi entre tes mains; traite-le comme bon te semblera. David se leva, et coupa doucement le pan du manteau de Saül."
4. Ary hoy ny olon' i Davida taminy: Izao no andro nolazain' i Jehovah taminao hoe: Indro, hatolotro eo an-tananao ny fahavalonao mba hataonao araka izay heverinao fa tsara. Dia nitsangana Davida ka nitsaitsaika nanapaka ny sisin' ny kapaotin' i Saoly.
5. And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.
5. (24:6) Après cela le coeur lui battit, parce qu`il avait coupé le pan du manteau de Saül.

6. And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.
6. (24:7) Et il dit à ses gens: Que l`Éternel me garde de commettre contre mon seigneur, l`oint de l`Éternel, une action telle que de porter ma main sur lui! car il est l`oint de l`Éternel.
6. Ka hoy izy tamin' ny olony: Sanatria amiko eo anatrehan' i Jehovah, raha hanao izany zavatra izany amin' ny tompoko, izay voahosotr' i Jehovah aho ka haninjitra ny tanako aminy, fa voahosotr' i Jehovah izy.
7. So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
7. (24:8) Par ces paroles David arrêta ses gens, et les empêcha de se jeter sur Saül. Puis Saül se leva pour sortir de la caverne, et continua son chemin.

8. David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.
8. (24:9) Après cela, David se leva et sortit de la caverne. Il se mit alors à crier après Saül: O roi, mon seigneur! Saül regarda derrière lui, et David s`inclina le visage contre terre et se prosterna.
8. Ary rehefa afaka izany, dia mba nitsangana koa Davida ka niala tao an-johy, dia niantso an' i Saoly ka nanao hoe: Ry mpanjaka tompoko ô! ary nony nitodika azy i Saoly, dia niondrika tamin' ny tany Davida ka niankohoka.
9. And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
9. (24:10) David dit à Saül: Pourquoi écoutes-tu les propos des gens qui disent: Voici, David cherche ton malheur?
9. Dia hoy Davida tamin' i Saoly: Nahoana ianao no maka vavan' olona hoe: Indro, Davida mitady hanisy ratsy anao?
10. Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD's anointed.
10. "(24:11) Tu vois maintenant de tes propres yeux que l`Éternel t`avait livré aujourd`hui entre mes mains dans la caverne. On m`excitait à te tuer; mais je t`ai épargné, et j`ai dit: Je ne porterai pas la main sur mon seigneur, car il est l`oint de l`Éternel."
10. "Indro, hitan' ny masonao androany ny nanoloran' i Jehovah anao ho eo an-tanako tao an-johy; ary nisy nilaza hevitra ny hamonoana anao, saingy niantra anao ny masoko, ka hoy aho: Tsy haninjitra ny tanako amin' ny tompoko aho, fa voahosotr' i Jehovah izy."
11. Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.
11. (24:12) Vois, mon père, vois donc le pan de ton manteau dans ma main. Puisque j`ai coupé le pan de ton manteau et que je ne t`ai pas tué, sache et reconnais qu`il n`y a dans ma conduite ni méchanceté ni révolte, et que je n`ai point péché contre toi. Et toi, tu me dresses des embûches, pour m`ôter la vie!
11. "Ary koa, ry ikaky ô, jereo dia jereo ange ny sisin' ny kapaotinao ety an-tanako; fa raha nanapaka ny sisin' ny kapaotinao aho, fa tsy nahafaty anao, dia izahao ka fantaro fa tsy misy faharatsiana na fahadisoana amin' ny tanako, ary tsy nanota taminao aho, nefa ianao kosa mihaza ny aiko mba hanala azy."
12. The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
12. "(24:13) L`Éternel sera juge entre moi et toi, et l`Éternel me vengera de toi; mais je ne porterai point la main sur toi."
12. Jehovah no hitsara ahy sy ianao, ary Jehovah no hamaly anao noho ny amiko, fa ny tanako tsy mba haninona anao.
13. As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
13. (24:14) Des méchants vient la méchanceté, dit l`ancien proverbe. Aussi je ne porterai point la main sur toi.
13. Araka ny lazain' ny ohabolan' ny ntaolo hoe: Avy amin' ny ratsy fanahy no ivoahan' ny ratsy, nefa ny tanako tsy haninona anao.
14. After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.
14. (24:15) Contre qui le roi d`Israël s`est-il mis en marche? Qui poursuis-tu? Un chien mort, une puce!
14. "Hitady an' iza no nivoahan' ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely? Iza no enjehinao? Amboa maty; parasy iray."
15. The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.
15. "(24:16) L`Éternel jugera et prononcera entre moi et toi; il regardera, il défendra ma cause, il me rendra justice en me délivrant de ta main."
15. Aoka Jehovah no ho mpitsara, ka dia hitsara ahy sy ianao ary hijery sy handahatra ho ahy ka hanafaka ahy amin' ny tananao.
16. And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
16. (24:17) Lorsque David eut fini d`adresser à Saül ces paroles, Saül dit: Est-ce bien ta voix, mon fils David? Et Saül éleva la voix et pleura.
16. "Ary izao no niseho, nony vita izany teny nataon' i Davida tamin' i Saoly izany, dia hoy Saoly: Feonao va izany, ry Davida zanako ô? Ary Saoly nanandratra ny feony ka nitomany;"
17. And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.
17. "(24:18) Et il dit à David: Tu es plus juste que moi; car tu m`as fait du bien, et moi je t`ai fait du mal."
17. "Ary hoy izy tamin' i Davida: Marina noho izaho ianao; fa ianao dia nanisy soa ahy, fa izaho kosa namaly ratsy anao."
18. And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.
18. (24:19) Tu manifestes aujourd`hui la bonté avec laquelle tu agis envers moi, puisque l`Éternel m`avait livré entre tes mains et que tu ne m`as pas tué.
18. Ary ianao dia naneho androany ny nanaovanao soa tamiko, fa na dia natolotr' i Jehovah teo an-tananao aza aho, dia tsy nahafaty ahy ianao.
19. For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.
19. (24:20) Si quelqu`un rencontre son ennemi, le laisse-t-il poursuivre tranquillement son chemin? Que l`Éternel te récompense pour ce que tu m`as fait en ce jour!
19. Fa moa raha misy olona mahazo ny fahavalony, havelany handeha soa aman-tsara va izy? Koa hovalian' i Jehovah soa anie ianao noho ny nataonao tamiko androany.
20. And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.
20. (24:21) Maintenant voici, je sais que tu régneras, et que la royauté d`Israël restera entre tes mains.
20. Ary, indro, ankehitriny fantatro fa ho mpanjaka tokoa ianao, ary ny fanjakan' ny Isiraely ho tafatoetra tsara eo an-tananao.
21. Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.
21. (24:22) Jure-moi donc par l`Éternel que tu ne détruiras pas ma postérité après moi, et que tu ne retrancheras pas mon nom de la maison de mon père.
21. Koa mianiàna amiko amin' i Jehovah ianao ankehitriny fa tsy handringana ny taranako mandimby ahy ianao, ary tsy hovonoinao amin' ny mpianakavin' ny raiko ny anarako.
22. And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
22. (24:23) David le jura à Saül. Puis Saül s`en alla dans sa maison, et David et ses gens montèrent au lieu fort.
22. "Ary Davida dia nianiana tamin' i Saoly; ary dia lasa nody Saoly, fa Davida sy ny olony kosa niakatra nankany amin' ny batery fiarovana."
